Of the many desperate, sadistic tactics deployed by insurgents in Afghanistan, this is surely among the worst ever recorded: Authorities say that an 8-year-old girl was tricked into carrying a concealed bomb close to a police vehicle, where it was remotely detonated, the Associated Press reports. Only she died.

The incident occurred in a remote village called Uwshi, in the Charchino District, said Fazal Ahmad Shirzad, the police chief of Uruzguan Province.

Shirzad told the New York Times he believes that the girl was completely unaware that the bag that she had been given by Taliban insurgents held a bomb.

CBSNews.com special report: Afghanistan

The sad tale of the girl allegedly tricked into blowing herself up is a sober reminder for President Obama and an American public eager to pull troops out of the region that not only is it still incredibly violent there, but whatever is motivating the violence of the insurgents has led to increasingly desperate tactics that fall well outside the lines of what most of the world considers decent.

The insurgency has occasionally used children in its attacks, in an attempt to avoid detection, the AP reports.

It has been recorded many times that insurgent leaders rarely, if ever, volunteer themselves for suicide bombing missions, and their targets are increasingly becoming women and children bystanders.

A suicide car bomber attacked a health clinic in eastern Afghanistan as women and children lined up for maternity care and vaccinations on Saturday, killing at least 37 people, the Associated Press reports.

If they're not targeting women and children, insurgent leaders have increasingly been deploying women on their behalf in suicide attacks for years, even as they profess a desire to give women in the region the least amount of rights of just about anywhere on Earth.

Right around the same time in Pakistan as the attack on the health clinic in Afghanistan, a married couple acting on behalf of the Pakistan Taliban attacked a police station, killing 10 people, The Guardian reports. They disguised themselves in burqas to enter the police station with little scrutiny, then opened fire with guns and grenades in what led to a five-hour siege, all before blowing themselves up.

I agree with the person who questioned "why do we keep calling them insurgents".?

These people are TERRORISTS, plain and simple.!

They are viscious, evil barbarians hiding behind what they refer to as their religion; possibly hoping to make it seem their actions; under the cloak of religion; might make their actions seem more "respectable.

How is the US suppose to help "nation build" in a land where the people have barely advanced beyond savagery and barbarism.?

We have lost enough brave men and women and sent far too much money trying to "civilize" these terrorists.

FACE IT. There can be no winning (or nation building") in a place where the people justify horrific actions by claiming their religions demands them.

These men are not warriors in the name of Allah,; they are armed COWARDS hiding behind and under the skirts of women and children to save their own *****.

Western Civilization is far superior.
We need to recognise that we are dealing with true evil barbarians, even their gov't officials, and "organizations" because there is no outrage.
By the way, I have not found this story on Al Jazeerra, some news propaganda sideways polybloat they are

Why does CBS keep referring to the terrorists as 'insurgents' like they are trying to gain their independence or something?
Stupid Politically Correct speech is insane.

The question is not is he proud of us, their is an ideological difference, Jehovah loves his creation, Allah doesn't care at all about it. Why the difference, Jehovah and Allah are not the same.

This is exactly why we cannot let our petty insecurities interrupt airport security. Anyone who thinks these psychopaths would not think twice about putting a bomb in a baby's diaper or in the lap of a senior citizen is delusional. The enemy cares not for any human life; not their own and especially not anyone else's. Suck it up and take the pat-down. The security people do not enjoy anymore than do you.

No demonizing, just pointing at the facts.

Sad, but it's still time to come home. There's a million tales of woe the world-round. Unfortunately, America can no longer afford blanket protection for those living under tyranny. Lest our economy collapse further, and fearful, uneducated voters send even more tyrants to Washington that we have to live under. Sorry to sound cruel, but China is growing an economic juggernaut while we're playing war games. Time to examine national priorities.

No Religion is not the problem; it is the human interpretation of Religion that is the problem. Case in Point (Christians and Muslim history is well documented)- When Religion is used as a means to justify ones ends (goal) to harm other humans.
