DNA Tests: Hitler Descended From Jews, Africans?

The history of Adolf Hitler is well known. Apart from bringing the world to war, the Nazi leader was obsessed with the idea of a European "master race," which served as the foundation for his hostility toward Jews and led to the tragedy of the Holocaust.

But DNA testing may provide a new twist: Hitler may have been descended from both Jews and Africans, according to a Daily Mail report.

Belgian journalist Jean-Paul Mulder and historian Marc Vermeeren conducted tests on 39 of the Nazi leader's relatives earlier this year.

A Belgian news magazine reported that according to Mulder's and Vermeeren's study, Hitler's relatives have a chromosome called Haplopgroup E1b1b (Y-DNA) that is rare in Germany and Western Europe. It could have its roots in Africa and the Middle East.

"It is most commonly found in the Berbers of Morocco, in Algeria, Libya and Tunisia, as well as among Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews," Mr Vermeeren said in the article.

According to the report, Haplogroup E1b1b1 accounts for about 18 to 20 percent of Ashkenazi and 8.6 percent to 30 percent of Sephardic Y-chromosomes. "It appears to be one of the major founding lineages of the Jewish population," the Daily Mail reported.

There have been other suggestions that Hitler had Jewish blood.

Hitler's father, Alois, might have been an illegitimate child of a Jewish man called Frankenberger and a German maid, Maria Schickelgruber, which would make Hitler one-quarter Jewish. Hitler's nephew, Patrick, may have tried to blackmail him over Alois' ancestry.

I don?t think this author knows what they are talking about. E1b1b1 was present in Europe since neolithic times and is especially common in the Balkans and southern Europe, but you see it all over Europe. It says absolutely nothing about race. True some remote great great great ? grandfather going back a thousand generations may have come from north Africa or the middle east, but the only trace of that now is in the y-chromosome. It certainly doesn?t make him an African or a Jew. The only way to prove Jewish ancestry is to look at his markers and compare them statistically with known Jewish families. Just having the E1b1b1 haplogroup proves nothing.

You are absolutely right! It is well known fact that the genetic markers "E" (Berber) and "J" (Jewish/Arab) are found all over Europe, although in small amounts. The highest concentractions are found in Italy and the Balkans. The reason for this is the speard of agriculture form the Middle East to Europe via the Balkans during the Neolithic period. More likely the genetic marker was introduced by the Romans. The Romans were a mixture of European and Middle Eastern peoples. This is why in Italy there is a high concentration of the genetic marker "J" and "E". The Romans occupied what is now Austria and southern Germany for many years. Thus it is certain they intruduced it this way. Thus this does not make Hitler an Afrian or Jew! This is silly journalist drivel. Besides Hitler KNEW he was not a pure "Aryan". Neither did he think the many Germans were pure Aryans. This is why he was so obssessed with "Germanizing" or purifying the Germans by selective breeding by purer Nordics in Germay. Anyhow, just look at Hitler and his relatives. They do not look anything like Jews or Berbers.

Notice, every time we read WWII related articles with new discoveries it sparks incredible interest. Why? Because WWII is not over. Not in the minds of people. German population can not get over these events either. Europeans still perceives Germany with fair dose of hatred. Germany continues to pay restitution. In Europe massive graves are still discovered and victims reburied. Most American families whose grandparent came home from war brought trophies. Alive- still remember the dead.

This is like the 'news' Ken Mehlman is gay. It's been suspected for years but I guess it's kind of cool that it's confirmed. So it wasn't just supposition. More twist on the twisted.

Psychoanalytic thought has long held that Hitler's particular animus towards Jews to a great degree originated from the hatred he felt for his Jewish grandfather on his dad's side and the shame (Hitler's father was the illegitimate son of this man) brought to his family and social sphere this created

In very simple terms Hitler revenged himself upon all Jews for his abandonment (of his grandmother, illegitimate father, and himself) by his Jewish grandfather

This is well known in psychiatric/psychoanalytic circles though not generally well known in popular knowledge. This DNA evidence isn't exactly 'breaking news' as to Hitler's Jewish background

You'll never hear Netanyahu or the Neocons explaining this

Alice Miller has the best explanation of some of these dynamics -

//Adolf Hitler's father Alois was an illegitimate child. He was suspected of being the son of a Jewish merchant from Graz because his mother, Maria Schickelgruber, became pregnant when she was in his domestic employ. The suspicion was not easy to disprove because Adolf Hitler's grandmother received alimony from the merchant for a period of 14 years. Alois must have suffered greatly from this social stigma; the fact that his name was so often changed (Heidler, Hydler, etc.) is a clear indication of the fact. For him, the opprobrium of being both illegitimate and of Jewish descent was a source of unbearable shame. But there was no way he could rid himself of this humiliation. ///

I love a good, "In your face, Hitler" article, but really now, how many of you had the first and most logical thought which questions the "scientific" nature this article supposedly says is true?

What DNA makes a person Jewish?

Judiasm is a belief system. It's not in DNA. African ancestry, European ancestry, and others may be in the DNA, fine and well. There are Jewish members of every race on earth, as there are Muslim and Christian members of every race on earth.

I can change what I believe. I cannot change my DNA. This is not how science is done, this is how products are sold. Reach for your wallet; you're being had.

You could prove Hitler has Jewish ancestry by studying his ANCESTRY, but not by studying his DNA or the DNA of his relatives.

More people could benefit from real critical thinking. I fear for science, as it is the last great hope for mankind; and now we cannot tell the difference between it and hopeful bias.

I am attacking the journalists and 'scientists' and not defending Hitler. Who would? My own grandfather fought against him as would I under the same cirumstance. This is not the point of my post - and if you thought as much, you may even be reading things that have not been written in other articles. A little introspection may be necessary.

Cheers,

SK

to take over Palestine.

Thank you. This is the most well-written post I've seen this year. Thank you for adding thought and insight to the board.

Hitler might have been of jewish desent but he was no 'Zionist'.
This is for your edification.

"Zionism, the national movement for the return of the Jewish people to their homeland and the resumption of Jewish sovereignty in the Land of Israel, advocated, from its inception, tangible as well as spiritual aims. Jews of all persuasions, left and right, religious and secular, joined to form the Zionist movement and worked together toward these goals. Disagreements led to rifts, but ultimately, the common goal of a Jewish state in its ancient homeland was attained. The term ?Zionism? was coined in 1890 by Nathan Birnbaum."

Their is no genetic basis of the concept of race. The term has no scientific meaning. Of course there are social and political meanings but the word has no scientific meaning. The very concept of "racial purity" runs counter to everything we understand about genes and their relationship to survival.

The last thing you want is a 'pure' gene pool. It puts all humanity at risk. What you want to do is maximize the gene pool and create as permissive an environment as possible in order to increase the survivability of as wide a range of 'types' as possible.

Heterozygosity rules!
