Bob Dole (Sans Elizabeth) Stumps For Palin In Raleigh

(CBS)
(RALEIGH, N.C.) - As his wife Elizabeth was making her own campaign stop about two hours to the west in Salisbury, former Sen. Bob Dole spoke at Sarah Palin's rally Saturday night rally here.
The traveling press arrived after Dole spoke, but two people who were there said the 1996 Republican presidential nominee told a few funny anecdotes to warm up the crowd.
"Now I know that Sen. Bob Dole was just here — I was honored to get to meet him," Palin said. "And you must be so proud of Bob Dole. Truly he is a great American. He is a hero, a servant to his country in war and in peace."
Tonight's rally marked the fourth straight time Palin has made a public event in North Carolina without Sen. Elizabeth Dole by her side. The last time the two appeared together was at a presidential debate watch party in Greenville on Oct. 7.
Dole is locked in a tough Senate reelection battle against Democratic State Senator Kay Hagan. Last week, Dole began running an ad accusing Kagan of having ties to an atheist group, leading Kagan to file a lawsuit against Dole.
