Palin To Talk Energy Security Tomorrow

(HERSHEY, PA.) - Sarah Palin will deliver a policy speech on energy security Wednesday morning in Toledo, Ohio, a campaign spokesperson tells CBS News.

Energy policy is one of Palin's favorite issues to discuss on the campaign trail, and she has said that it would be one of the areas she would focus on as vice president.

The Toledo speech will be Palin's second policy address as a VP candidate. Last week in Pittsburgh, the Alaska governor laid out details of her plan to help families with children who have special needs.

This research is the very essence of the effort to find answers to the problem of autism. Whether she was reading from prepared notes or not, she looked very foolish. It makes one wonder what sort of gaffe she and her handlers will come up with concerning energy. This person is, in no way, qualified to hold even the office she now occupies.

Some of the most interesting information that I learned in biology class about genetics was from fruit-flies. Sarah probably missed that part of the class sending love notes to "The Todd." The Republican party has declared war on science for years, and she is just not smart enough to recognize that. A questioner at a town hall-style meeting in Wisconsin said he had heard at least 75 per cent of the oil drilled in Alaska was being sold to China and said if true he would like to know why.

"No. It''s not 75 per cent of our oil being exported," said Palin, suggesting some of Alaska''s oil may, in fact, may be going abroad but not that much of it.

"In fact," she then added, "Congress is pretty strict on, um, export bans of oil and gas especially."

No Alaska oil has been exported since 2004, and little if any since 2000, according to the Energy Information Administration and the Congressional Research Service.

But Congress has never imposed outright bans on US oil or natural gas exports.

Exports of Alaska oil were prohibited by Congress in 1973 when the Alaska oil pipeline was built.

That ban was lifted in 1996 when large volumes of oil from Alaska came down from the North Slope, and US demand was soft.

by mrs_r October 28, 2008 6:48 PM EDT: At a town hall meeting with McCain, Palin - whom McCain said "knows more about energy than anyone else in the United States" - was asked how she would keep oil from new domestic drilling in the U.S. market. Her answer:

"Oil and coal? Of course, it''s a fungible commodity and they don''t flag, you know, the molecules, where it''s going and where it''s not. But in the sense of the Congress today, they know that there are very, very hungry domestic markets that need that oil first," Palin said. "So, I believe that what Congress is going to do, also, is not to allow the export bans to such a degree that it''s Americans that get stuck to holding the bag without the energy source that is produced here, pumped here. It''s got to flow into our domestic markets first.%u201D
