Palin Takes Aim At Northern Maine's Electoral Vote

From CBS News' Scott Conroy:

(BANGOR, MAINE) - Trailing in the polls, the Republican ticket is hoping to make the election close enough that one electoral vote could make the difference, which explains why Sarah Palin held a rally here this morning.

Like Nebraska, Maine splits its electoral votes. Republicans are hoping that the state's rural 2nd District, with its expansive lakes, dense forests and snowmobiling culture, will be more receptive to Palin's politics than the geographically smaller 1st District, where the population center is around the liberal bastion of Portland.

"I feel like I am at home because I see the Carhartts and the steel-toed boots," Palin told an exuberant crowd at the airport hanger here. "And I see mixed in there with the suits and the ties, the NRA hats and all those good things that remind me of home."

Though she had been focusing less on the historic nature of her candidacy on the trail as of late, Palin brought back one of her signature lines in Maine—a state that is represented by two female Republican senators.

"It's so great to be here in the state that has elected Sen. Margaret Chase Smith, has elected Sen. Olympia Snowe and Sen. Susan Collins," she said. "Maine, you all know something about those cracks in the glass ceiling, but the women of America aren't finished yet. Maine, with your help this November, we are going to shatter once and for all that final glass ceiling."

The Republicans have a lot of work to do to make up ground in more important swing states like Pennsylvania and Florida. But if the election is tight, this morning's visit could very well make the difference.

Who built the Palin home and where are the receipts for labor and materials? The Dude was hot on the campaign trail while he was also building the house. Since there is a very short season in Alaska, I am amazed how quickly the Dude supposedly built the large house.

I think that I would be a much better VP than Sarah. I can even see the moon from my back yard.

Obama has been vetted over almost two in fromt of the press and the US Voters. On the other hand other than several disasterous outings and a lackluster debate where she stated her intent to ignore both the questions and her opponent. Sara remains hidden from the US voter only appearing before sympathetic hand picked audiences and in interviews with sympathetic commentators on sympathetic networks. For a VP candidate how long are they going to keep the training wheels on -- sure seems to indicate the campaign themselves do not trust Gov Palin to handle herself appropriately before the US voters in general or the US Press. How could she ever bet trusted to negotiate with any foreign leader, including our allies, under those conditions?

"REPUBLICANS LAUNCH WAVE OF CALLS ATTACKING OBAMA"

Posted: 07:02 PM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Republicans launched an enormous wave of phone calls Thursday blasting Barack Obama for "having worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers," party sources said.

The calls are part of a $70 million last Republican push to get out the vote for John McCain on November 4, using calls, mailings and door-knocking in battleground states.

"Hundreds of thousands" of calls are being made in at least half a dozen hard-fought states including Virginia, North Carolina and Ohio, the sources said.

DON''T UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF THE ''ROBO-PHONE LIES''

The robo-phone lies destroyed John McCain in 2000 Republican Primaries. Just after McCain shocked the nation with his early primary wins in 2000, surrogates for George W. Bush hit South Carolina hard with ''rob-phone lies'' falsely accusing McCain of fathering an illegitimate Black child.

The Bush surrogates knew the Appalachian states were easy marks for racist lies and could be easily bamboozled into believing the lie by voting against Senator McCain. The Bush surrogates guessed correctly that South Carolina was easy prey to racism, and Bush went on to win the Presidency, and the rest is history.

MORAL OF THE STORY - - "ROBO-PHONE LIES" WORK WITH APPALACHIA!!!

Palin fires up another ''Klan'' rally! When this election is finally over, McCain needs to take a hard look at how his ''choice'' of running mates destroyed whatever chance he had of becoming president.

Palin is a nitwit and totally unacceptable as a vice-presidential candidate. Surely she won''t fool the voters in Maine. They have too much common sense to support her.
