McCain Takes A Little Credit For Bailout Passage

(FLAGSTAFF, ARIZ.) – John McCain commended the House of Representatives for passing the bailout legislation today – after they voted it down on Monday – and sought to take some of the credit for its passage during a brief statement after his plane touched down here today.

"I'm glad I suspended my campaign and went back to Washington to bring, and help bring, House Republicans to the table," McCain said.

"This rescue bill isn't prefect – it's an outrage that it's even necessary. We have to stop the damage to our economy done by corrupt and incompetent practices on Wall Street and in Washington."

Some conservatives, especially in the House, had decried the amount of government intervention in the marketplace that the bill places in the hands of the Treasury Department. But McCain said the taxpayer protections that had been added improved the bill significantly.

"It's got to help Main Street, it's got to help people stay in their jobs," McCain said at a town hall meeting earlier today in Pueblo, Colorado.

"I am a proud conservative, I am a proud opponent of waste and pork barrel spending, I am proud, but I also have to tell you the government has to step in at this time and save Main Street from the challenges and the disaster that's looming."

McCain should get full responsibility for the mess Wall Street is in as well as Main Street. He has consistently voted for deregulation for both Wall Street and the banking system and repeatedly voted for tax breaks for the top 1-2% wealthiest people. He voted to have jobs shipped over seas and *** education that doesn''t include *** education. Yes, He deserves a lot of credit. However, it''s nothing I want in the next President of the United States. He claims he''s a "maverick" but what few plans he''s released to the media for people to learn about are not helpful to the middle class, in fact his policies still appear to make the world better for only the most wealthy. Having a running mate who speaks "redneck" doesn''t make anyone "down home" to me, either. It just means she is potentially a heart beat away from the President and she is unable to speak proper english, which frankly, I expect My President and Vice President to be able to do, regularly. If anything the two of them are frightening, but their antics are so funny, it makes one forget how important it is that these two really can''t be trusted to run our country.

His comments only show how removed from the reality of most Americans John McCain is. Passing the bill that rewarded the people who fleeced America by bailing them out is wrong. We are all the victims of a huge ponzi scheme.

McCain is self delusional. When he "suspended" his campaign, he effectively shot down the agreement first reached. Afterwards, no one would give him a meaningful role to play. He was reduced to making phone calls and talking to staffers when their pincipals were too busy to take his calls.

Wow, you bloggers here are so anti McCain and giving him any kind of credit for his part in this economic crisis.
I give him alot of credit for the problem we are facing today! John McCain was involved in the Keating 5 scandal and the billions of dollars of the American public''s hard earned savings. Back when he says he found his goal to fight corruption after the Keating 5 scandal, he still did nothing to change the regulation laws forbidding the investment bankers from doing the very same thing. Now he wants credit? You got it pal! This is your fault John McCain and anyone who gives you the honor of their vote, may as well hand you their life savings, 401K, life insurance and any other retirement monies, because you will surely lose it for them anyways!

McCain deserves full credit for stopping a successful vote the first time and the ultimate larding up of the second attempt to pass the bill in the senate. The Lard Senator McCain voted for.

McSame is a big part of the reason for the financial mess the US is in, given his long record of opposing regulation and oversight. Having said that, why he''d want to take credit for such a deeply unpopular bill is beyond me. He''d be better off quietly ignoring it and talking about something else.
