From CBS News' John Bentley:

(WASHINGTON) – John McCain will attend tonight's first presidential debate tonight in Oxford, Mississippi, after suspending his campaign to work on the bailout legislation.

"Sen. McCain has spent the morning talking to members of the Administration, members of the Senate, and members of the House. He is optimistic that there has been significant progress toward a bipartisan agreement now that there is a framework for all parties to be represented in negotiations," said McCain spokesman Brian Rogers. "The McCain campaign is resuming all activities and the Senator will travel to the debate this afternoon."

McCain will return to Washington to resume work on the financial crisis after the debate.

I am amazed how much the Media believe these bogus stories. We knew when we heard MCcain say. I will stay in Washington. He was lying.

John McCAIN already has a web Ad out on the Wall St. Journal saying "MCCAIN WINS DEBATE"!

Pretty amazing for a a man that ''suspended'' his campaign, to get an ad out so quickly (esp. 8 hours before the debate starts).

what a sleaze. Was he ever an honorable man?

I noted that one of my sentences is badly structured. It should say that (McCain)... doesn''t realize YET that the LACK OF laws and regulations is what keeps GREED from being controlled...

1) McCain is opposing the White House request for money...this will play into his "maverick" image and this will be his stage play tonight...that he is the MAVERICK opposing the Washington DC crowd for the masses.
2) The money won''t be inserted into the Wall Street System and more banks will continue to fail
3) McCain will once again be coming out for doing ACTION but in reality is backing DOING NOTHING by CREATING CHAOS and DISAGREEMENT
4) This mess was caused by deregulation of the financial industry which was heavily written by Republicans since 1999. The recent bills since 2005 have just hit the skids for one reason or another (ineffective or to much partisan opposition or economically unsound)
5) McCain has been the DEREGULATOR for 99% of his voting career. He blames "corruption and greed" for the mess we''re in. He doesn''t admit YET that laws and regulations are what keep GREED from being controlled. If the brokers on Wall Street play within the rules of the game they aren''t breaking the laws (the current FBI investigations will pull up the ones who couldn''t even keep within the barely there regulations of the present)
Why would any American vote for this guy? Being a POW might make you a war hero but it doesn''t make you smart. His comments that it turned him around philosophically is curiously contorted also. His moral behaviour upon his return is questionable at best.

A huge thank you to the media for asking the Republicans to name a single suggestion that McCain presented on the bailout bill.

The house and senate Republicans answer was to keep trying to dodge the question.

When the media demanded a response, the Republicans stopped the press conference.

It''s pretty obvious he thought the deal was all worked out and he could blow in to DC and take credit for all of it- another attempt to stampede Obama has failed

Now he just looks like a buffoon.

Even Mike Huckabee called him out:

"Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a McCain supporter, said the Republican made a "huge mistake" by even discussing canceling the debate.

"You can''t just say, ''World, stop for a moment. I''m going to cancel everything,''" Huckabee told reporters Thursday night in Alabama before attending a benefit for the University of Mobile. He said it''s more important for voters to hear from the presidential candidates than for them to huddle with fellow senators in Washington.

Nice try McCain - either way, you were going to come out with egg on your face. But I can''t wait to see how the right-wing nutjobs on here will try to spin this.
