McCain Says "Fundamentals" Of U.S. Economy Are Strong

From CBS News' John Bentley:

(ORLANDO, FLA.) – John McCain tried once again to assure voters that the "fundamentals" of the American economy are strong, despite the ongoing financial meltdown.

"The economic crisis is not the fault of the American people. Our workers are the most innovative, the hardest working, the best skilled, most productive, most competitive in the world, that's the American worker," McCain said at a town hall meeting here.

"My opponents may disagree, but those fundamentals, the American worker and their innovation, their entrepreneurship, the small business, those are the fundamentals of America and I think they're strong."

Meantime, Obama blasted McCain's earlier comments on the economy, when McCain was a little less specific. McCain said, "The fundamentals of our economy are strong, but these are very, very difficult times."

Obama responded today in Colorado, saying, "It's not that I think John McCain doesn't care what's going on in the lives of most Americans. I just think doesn't know. He doesn't get what's happening between the mountain in Sedona where he lives and the corridors of Washington where he works. Why else would he say that we've made great progress economically under George Bush?"

"Why else would he say, today, of all days – just a few hours ago – that the fundamentals of the economy are still strong? Senator – what economy are you talking about?"

McCain's campaign responded that Obama had no trust in American workers.

"Only Barack Obama would take a statement about the strength, ingenuity and resilience of American workers and American industry and turn it into a political distortion and attack," said campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds.

"Barack Obama's short career as a public servant has been defined by pessimism, defeatism, and weakness in the face of the great challenges of our time. His lack of faith in American workers may explain his willingness to raise taxes during a struggling economy, but it is no way to lead our country."

As my grandparents would say, "I''d rather follow the devil to Hell than McCain". If people can remain so blind and stupid and unable to see that the only path he would lead us to is damnation, then it would be poetic justice for them when they find that they have really ended in hell. The choice is clear and it is yours - a new path with Obama or spiral down the stairway to the depths of hell with McCain.

Until you''ve seen the depths to which greed can lead a human being, you''ll never fully appreciate the viciousness of the Republicans. To keep from hating themselves for that, they wrap themselves in patriotism and/or religion.

Sen. John McCain has proved himself to be unqualified and incapable of effectively leading the United States of America into the future by, among other things, his reckless, irresponsible, impulsive, and dangerous judgment in picking Sarah Palin as his running mate. Sarah Palin is a minor distraction not even worthy of discussion. However, Sen. John McCain has shown his contempt for the intelligence of the American people by making this unequivocally cynical decision to use an unknown, untested, and corrupt, serial liar like Sarah Palin to deceive voters into believing he stands for change. Sen. John McCain also disgraced himself by demonstrating a lack of courage in his choice of Sarah Palin at the last moment over much more qualified Republican men and women simply because she appeals to the base of the Republican Party, a group of voters he was going to lose. What Sen. John McCain doesn''t understand is that by appeasing the extreme right wing of the Republican Party, he is going to lose the voters that really count, i.e., moderate and independent voters, and, in doing so, certainly lose the election. Obama/Biden 2008!!!

If there''s one word that sums up the worst of John McCain, it''s this: reckless. Even most of his fellow Republican Senators think he''s "temperamentally unsuited to the presidency," although few will speak on the record for fear of reprisals if McCain somehow manages to eek out victory by tearing down Obama with lies and fear-mongering. Don''t be fooled. We can''t afford to put this hot-headed Bush sequel anywhere close to the White House. Fundamentals are strong if you%u2019re in-line with the Conservative Entitlement Agenda milking the US Federal Treasury for $Billions!

And, if you%u2019re making $money hand over fist why would you want to change anything? As a Republican that is%u2026

Flajoe1: hahaha...true. I love Obama''s statement earlier, "''"if you think those lobbyists are working day and night for John McCain just to put themselves out of business, well, then, I''ve got a bridge to sell you up in Alaska.''"
