Robert Duvall Calls McCain's Pick of Palin "Brilliant"

(CBS)
From CBS News' John Bentley:

(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) – Were Robert Duvall and James Caan the only people in America to know about Sarah Palin being named as John McCain's running mate? Probably not, but when Duvall introduced Sarah Palin at the rally here tonight, he talked about watching her on TV a year ago and not knowing who she was, but being impressed.

A few weeks ago, Duvall said, he was talking to James Caan (he calls him "Jimmy") who agreed. After the pick, Caan told him McCain "pulled a brilliant military move" by naming her to the ticket.

Apparently a proponent of domestic drilling, Duvall held a sign that said "Drill Here! Drill Now!" as the McCain and Palin families entered the arena. He introduced the vice presidential hopeful by saying he if he knew 20 years ago what he knows now about Palin, he would have changed the ending of "Lonesome Dove," one of his many films.

"Instead of stopping the cattle drive in Montana, we'd have gone all the way to the great state of Alaska," Duvall said.

Response to Susan - SCD2008. Your views are scary. Where in the world do you get the idea that Obama is raising taxes (except for the wealthy)? Can''t you read or perhaps you just don''t understand what you read?

Brilliant, maybe. However, she doesn''''t believe in Global Warming, wants to drill ANWR, take the Polar Bear off the endangered species list, and doesn''''t believe in abortion even in cases of rape. This is not reform. This is old. American government needs to help keep jobs here, because other governments are fighting to take our jobs away. The battle is economic.

I suspect it''s hard to believe in global warming when your state is under ice 100% of the time. She just live in REALITY!

Drill ANWAR NOW! Drill off shore NOW! Drill anywhere in the US there oil! Every dime we save drilling our own oil is US money, and jobs!

Palin is educated and SMART! She knows about the ''morning after'' pill for rape victims! She knows it''s available at any clinic if you ask for it! With the MA pill conditions in the womb won''t allow a baby to be formed that has to be murdered!

Gooooooooooo Sarahhhhhhhhhhh!

Sarah Pailn was a GREAT pick! B.Hussein Obama, the self-proclaimed "change" candidate, made the bold and daring choise of ....... Joe Biden. Joe Biden? Joe Biden, the neanderthal plagerizer from Delaware? A boilerplate, inside-the-beltway politician straight out of the good-ole-boy network. That''s an example of the kind of "change" BHO is talking about? WEAK! WEAK!WEAK! I guess he''d pick Warren Christopher as his Sec Defense.

MCCAIN / PALIN 08!!!!! The responsible choice.

But, what Obama proposes for this country in the form of taxes will break what''s left of this country and send more jobs to foreign countries. Small business'' are barely able to keep their heads above water now. Those new taxes will effect gasoline, sale of new homes, natural resources like gas, water, and electric.Forget college funds, IRA''s, retirement accounts, money invested in stock markets, because you''ll be paying 40% of money earned on taxes. Experts predict that higher tax rates would crash the stock market. How do you think he proposes to fund this new socialized medical care package? This will effect all of us, not just business''. You think health care is expensive now, wait until its free. Companies/business'' will stand in line to leave this country because they couldn''t afford to stay. This man is scary. How will driving taxes up help any of us? Don''t be blind-sided by the real issue here. As much as I don''t agree with Palin on her many "personal" convictions, I''m not electing her on those issues. Real reforms proposed by Obama will break this country. That is not reform.

db justice,

When does the issue of abortion constitute "reform"? Is this not a "personal opinion" of Palins? Women in Alaska still have abortions. Even though Bush is pro-life, women still have abortions. He just doesn''t believe that tax dollars should help fund abortions. Neither do I.
As far Palins stance on Global warming, I don''t agree with it. Neither do I think we should be looking to life on planet mars (the big hype right now)because we''ve destroyed one planet already, so why not fix what we have? I don''t understand her issues on this subject and think they are rediculous. Continued...

Either our education system is worse than I thought, or 9 year olds constitute the majority of "bloggers". I wish you people would learn to spell. What is a "Pesident"?..oh and I think we only have one government (if you are speaking of Federal) not "our governments are blahblahblah". Same old tripe. Take a good look at Sarah Palin folks...she will be the first female U.S.President. (not Hillary). Makes me smile from ear to ear !!
