GOP: Obama To "Come Down From Olympus to Be Among Mere Mortals"

From CBS News' Ryan Corsaro:

John McCain supporters are using statements previously made by Democratic candidates during this election year to attack Barack Obama today, calling him "woefully ill-prepared to be the next President of the United States."

Former Lt. Gov. Michael Steele, R-Md., mocked Obama for the setting of Obama's convention speech tomorrow night at Invesco Field, saying, "Tomorrow you're going to see Obama come down from Olympus to be among us mere mortals. To talk about well -- we'll wait and see. We need a little bit more than a soundbite presidency. We need a little bit more than a president who is a brand."

Photos taken by helicopter of the event's set-up show Greek-looking columns where Obama is expected to make his address.

Added Steele, "Barack Obama has got to step up with something more than a fancy tongue, smart snappy words, a nice suit, as Joe Biden would say...and come to the table with some substance."

Steele, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani, and former U.S. Treasurer Rosario Marin held a press conference this morning in Denver, where Giuliani said that Democrats themselves have made the case against an Obama presidency.

"Senator Obama, I think the case can be made very strongly from the words of Democrats, is just not ready to lead. Hillary Clinton said that during the campaign," said former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani at a press conference in Denver today.

"She said he was unprepared to lead. Unprepared to be commander in chief, unprepared to handle things -- the three am in the morning call."

In regards to Clinton's remarks to the Democratic National Convention last night, Giuliani said, "Last night she gave a very good speech. I thought it was a very good speech for her, I thought it was a very good speech for us (Republicans). I did not think it was a very good speech for Barack Obama, because she left out the key question that lingers."

"What we don't know is if she thinks he's prepared to be commander in chief. She said he wasn't, and she said nothing last night to suggest the opposite, and she had to know that question was out there."

Giuliani also singled out Obama's choice for vice president, saying "Joe Biden, his running mate, has quite often made the point that Obama is not prepared to lead," citing criticisms Biden made of Obama regarding the threat of Iran.

Giuliani said that while Republicans attacked each other to make contrasts, "We never said one another was not prepared to be commander in chief."

Better Obama coming from Mount Olympus then McBush trying to crawl up from the seemingly bottomless manure pit of the Republican party.

The Republicans and McBush are mired in their own lowroad despicable campaign.

It%u2019s a shame that the Republicans are not able to boast honestly of the successes they%u2019ve had, and the benefits they%u2019ve provided to the American People. Maybe, if the Republicans wish to legitimately win any future elections they should try to conduct themselves in proper government and not force their greedy agenda down the throats at all costs of the America People?

people are not afraid of Sen. Obama... they hate him because he is black. let us not cloudy the issue. it is crystal clear. there are people who could not stand to have as their president, a black man.... and bush and co have made this country, a country of fear instead of hope. so, the two ghosts of the GOP, hatred and fear have temporarily paralysed this nation. but, good conscience and good will are gaining the day. and the common sense of us Americans, long buried, is coming to the fore front again...

No doubt some of the sleaziest and stupidest people in America don''t like Hillary. Hillary Clinton is the very BEST the Democrats and the USA have and if either she or Bill had been President the last 8 years the USA would be wealthy, healthy and safe at this point in time. The Republican backwards, mentally ill way of thinking has put the United States in an enormous hole, about the size of Bush''s big stupid mouth. John McCain is a moron and a liar, you Republicans need to realize your party has totally and completely failed the USA. Join the Democrats in electing a real President who will look out for our welfare and spend our money on the American people instead of the criminals in the Republican party who lie and steal their way to hoarding our wealth and resources while destroying everything good and productive that once made America proud. Hating Hillary and Bill Clinton to me, is hating America, because no one truly loves the USA more than they do, they have proven it through their hard work and dedication to our people by actually CARING about us. The Republicans have done nothing but arrogantly and dishonestly extort all of our money and destroy our hopes, dreams and future. Shame on the Republicans, shame on them ALL.

& blue, we can better reach out and to try to unite this country ?

Why are so frightened ?
What is it that''s going to happen to you if Obama wins that you find is so terrifying?

Republicans are pathetic, grabbing onto straws - you think they would not have raised a stink if Hillary Clinton had said "Yes Barack is ready to lead" they would have picked on something else. Let''s just wait and see how Obama claims a landslide victory!

Where is John McCain ? He''s become like a fly on the wall. I wonder if he is going to keep his campaign staff with him if he becomes President, so that they can speak for him ?

I am truly saddened by the behavior of the party I once loved.
They betray every moral teaching of Jesus.

After WW II, Americans vowed to stand up against any world leader who acts like the new Republicans.

How can John McCain look anyone in the eye without feeling ashamed of his behavior over the last two months?
