Obama: I'm the "Underdog"

(CBS)

From CBS News' Maria Gavrilovic:

(ATLANTA) At a fund-raiser last night, Barack Obama tried to reclaim the title of "underdog," as he attempted to persuade some of his wealthiest supporters to donate to his general election campaign.

"John McCain calls himself the underdog. I will simply point out, for reasons you might consider apparent, that I am the underdog," Obama said.

"I will be the underdog until I'm sworn in."

Obama has been calling himself an underdog since he began campaigning in Iowa last year, and even when he had a decisive lead over Hillary Clinton in primaries, Obama bestowed this title upon himself. On Saturday, he told reporters that being an underdog is "a fun position to be in," but then took a more serious tone as jabbed at McCain's attempts to take the title.

"Let's be realistic, we've got John McCain who has you know two years ago three years ago was the putative republican nominee who's been part of the Washington establishment for years," Obama said and added, "the notion that some how you know I'm uh the heavy favorite in this race I think you know belies recent political history and a lot of American history."

Obama will be campaigning in suburban Atlanta today, as he continues to tout his economic policy. Both he and John McCain will address the 79th Annual LULAC Convention in Washington this afternoon, however they will be speaking at different times.

OK, for all those who are wondering and for all those who missed me- ( Yes, sipping martini''s in Oahu) I have to set the record straight: I am not on anyones compaign list, I have not donated any money to anyone, I do support the GOP, because they are the ''brighter'' yet ''misunderstood'' party. I have faith in the system and cannot with a clear conscience support a man, such as Obama, whom I have not been convinced has a shred of credibility or experiance. Between the two choices it is important to vote- one must choose- if you want to be heard after the fact- so, the bottom line- MCCAIN gets my vote- He is a Patriot and Hero. Sure, you can disagree, this is America, afterall. Have a good day!

Well Obama is a great speaker, and he preaches change, But the Young Man does not have enough sand in his pockets to be President, But I won''t vote for the Grumpy Little Troll, He reminds me of an old man lost in the Mall. Is the best America can do? All of you Obama supporters remember another speaker that preached change and had no experiance, The Germans are still trying to live that Election down. Be careful what you wish for you just might get it. As for the Angry little troll, I have to laugh the guy should come out with his own brand of flipflops, Maybe reef will make it for him, He make''s Kerry look like Ron Paul

The comments by "jack3213" are disheartening to me. I am so very tired of those who cannot seem to form a rational thought, but insist on speaking anyway. The hallmark of those non-thinkers is usually exhibited by ever present name calling.

Obama is a brilliant, patriotic, optimistic, and well spoken man who regularly breathes amazing volumes of fresh air into our disgustingly stale political arena. He has my admiration, my support, and my vote. "jack3213" offers nothing to the discussion.

jack3213, I assume you must work for the GOP. Every time I go to cbsnews I see you on here with a negative comment about Obama. I hope they pay well because after November you will need to find a real job.
