Obama Celebrates Mother's Day Off the Trail
From CBS News' Michelle Levi:
CHICAGO -- Barack Obama is taking the day off from campaigning to celebrate Mother's Day with his wife Michelle and their daughters Sasha and Melia. The family is visiting the home of the girls' godparents in Chicago today.
As for church, Obama told reporters yesterday that he would not be attending services at the Trinity United Church of Christ today.
"I am not going to burden the church at the moment with my presence and as a consequence your presence," he said, referring to the media attention the church has recieved since the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy.
"I think it's important for the church to be able to worship in fellowship especially on Mother's Day, which has some of the biggest attendance of the year without the distractions of a presidential campaign," Obama added.
The campaign will head to West Virginia tomorrow where Obama will make, most likely, his only appearance there prior to the primary there on Tuesday. He has a campaign event in Charleston, W.V. before heading to a rally in Louisville, Ky.
Meantime, Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., announced to the St. Louis Post Gazette yesterday that on Tuesday, Obama will visit Missouri, a key swing state in the general election where he'll likely hold an economic town hall meeting in the rural town of Cape Girardeau.
