From CBS News' Dante Higgins:

NASHVILLE, TN -- As John McCain continues to pick up endorsements his numbers in the polls continue to remain strong, McCain sounds confident about his chances for the GOP nomination on Tuesday and at times even for the presidency.

"I know that I can win the presidency once I win your nomination," he told an audience today at a rally in Nashville.

After the event he tried to reel back on his bold statement. "I hope I am not too confident about Tuesday. I am guardedly optimistic. I think we're doing well," he said.

"I sense a feeling of momentum but we're not taking anything for granted. That's why we're campaigning literally 24/7 between now and Tuesday. We are taking nothing for granted."

McCain said he'd assess the overall political situation after Tuesday, but then his confidence came through again.

"I assume that I will get the nomination of the party. I assume unifying our party is a very critical item and I believe we can do that and get everybody together and working together. And I'm confident I can do that."

While in Tennessee, McCain told residents there that they could be proud of their own for Senator Fred Thompson for running an honorable campaign. He also noted that he and Thompson are good friends and because of that he hesitates to ask for his endorsement.

We know what assume does. McCain is a Washington fat cat. If you want the mass influx of illegals to continue, more burden by them on our healthcare and Social services. Liberal Judges, and a President who has regular fits of rage when things don''''t go his way, then vote for this John McInsane. Do we really want his finger on the nuclear button. Everyone go to Mikehuckabee.com and go to contact us and tell him what a fake christian and idiot he is making himself up to be by sucking up to McCain by staying in the race to steal votes from Mitt Romney. His motivation is VP and appears to be a Mormon hating bigot and a hypicrit. Huckabeen is broke yet why is he still in this race? Do not believe any polls. Mitt Romney is surging right now and He is in it for the long haul, and I do believe he will win. I just gave him $75 and have given him several other donations. His campaign is in great shape. I would urge all of you who really love this country to donate to Mitt Romney it is the most important election of our life time. Will conservatives still have a voice if He is defeated, I am seriously worried about just that.

I agree with zerga. I have no idea where these so-called "conservative" supporters of McCain are. I havn''t met any. Conservatives will boycott a McCain nomination in record numbers by refusing to vote for him.

I verytime McCain opens his mouth I cringe. It is blasphamy for him to even use Reagan''s name. It kills me and my conservative Republican roots, but I will vote for anyone but McCain
