From CBS News' Aaron Lewis:

LAURENS, S.C. -- John Edwards expressed disappointment over the economic stimulus agreement reached today between Congress and the White House.

"This is another example of Washington deserting working people in the middle class," said Edwards at a press avail outside a campaign stop in Laurens, S.C. "They give $70 billion of tax breaks to business and do nothing for those who lost their jobs as a result of this economy."

Edwards said a much better alternative plan would be to modernize unemployment insurance laws.

"George Bush will sign whatever... economic stimulus package that is sent to him by the Congress," he said.

"The Congress needs to stand its ground. They need to stand by an employment insurance modernization. Because otherwise we're going to have thousands and thousands of families across this country who don't get the unemployment help that they need. They've lost their jobs through no fault of their own."
