McCain Says He'll Push Automakers to Meet CAFE Standards

WARREN, MICH. -- John McCain says it's time to move toward reaching the goals of CAF? standards and that he is confident automakers can meet the them while helping to reduce America's dependence on foreign oil.

He told reporters that the Detroit automotive manufacturing community reluctantly agreed to the increase in CAF? standards.

"And now our job is to provide them with the wherewithal to meet those CAF? standards. I believe the technology is there. We need to encourage it. Where the government needs to help out is with pure research and development. I'm more than willing to engage in that," he said.

"The automakers understand that with our dependence on foreign oil that this is a part of that overall effort to reduce that dependency. And I have great faith in the automobile industry that they'll be able to meet these CAF? standards, they'll move to hybrid cars we'll move to hydrogen, we'll move to batteries," said McCain.

"It's sort of like this idea of bringing back old jobs. You can't bring back old jobs, the experts agree with me, but we can create new jobs in keeping with technologies. I'm confident it can happen here in the state of Michigan."

Huckabee! He is the ONLY candidate out of the presidential field willing to implement the "Fair-Tax" system.

Look at your paycheck and see how much they are taking out of your paycheck for taxes... go ahead go look at it now.

Now take the cost of a brand new 60" LCD / Plasma high def TV and reclining chair (& cup holder) and divide that number by how much taxes they are taking out.

Example:
$3,000 (TV cost, chair) / $325 tax holding each week = 8 weeks

That''''s it, only 8 weeks to get this great deal!!!

But if you vote for any other candidate it will take years to save up for this! Say you put away $10 each week, well that''''s 4 years!

As detailed in the Washington Post, McCain campaign manager Rick Davis is a former lobbyist who has represented major telecom interests, with which McCain''s dealings as a member of the Senate Commerce Committee have drawn particular concern (These include actions by McCain in 2003-2004 favoring Cablevision Systems Corporation while soliciting $200,000 in contributions from Cablevision for his "Reform Institute."). McCain''s senior adviser is Charles R. Black Jr. of BKSH & Associates, which has also represented telecom interests as well as drug companies and defense contractors, among others. As early as last March, The Hill reported that McCain''s aggressive courting of K Street had won him first place in lobbyist support among prospective 2008 candidates, a distinction still held by McCain at the end of December according to the Washington Post.
