Giuliani, Huckabee Have Warm Exchange in Frigid Race

MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Show up at the polls in Manchester on the day of the primary and you're bound to run into someone you know. For Rudy Giuliani, it was Mike Huckabee.

"Let me say hello to him," Giuliani told his campaign folks as he headed to his car after greeting voters before dawn at the Brookside Congregational Church.

"Mayor!" shouted Huckabee. "May I have your vote today?"

"I don't think any of us can vote today," replied Giuliani, laughing.

Huckabee shook the former mayor's hand as he made a proposal: "Same day registration?"

The warmth displayed between the two Republican rivals penetrated the cold New Hampshire morning, where the two could see their breath as they made their final pushes for support here.

Patting Giuliani on the shoulder, Huckabee joked, "You know, we could bang on your car – that'd be a photo!"

"Ha!" said Giuliani. "See you in South Carolina…"

Neither candidate is expected to win today's primary, where John McCain and Mitt Romney lead in the polls. Although Giuliani was referring to Thursday night's debate in South Carolina, the state could be a battleground between Giuliani, who hopes to use it as a touchstone to win Florida, and Huckabee who wants to continue the momentum from his victory in Iowa.

by allan_59 January 9, 2008 2:34 AM EST: In the 70''s, with a Democratic House & Senate, and most State Houses under the Democrats, a Democratic President championed the ERA amendment to the Constitution. At a time much less contentious than today this relatively noncontroversial amendment could not be passed. That is how difficult it is to amend our Constitution.
Anyone that believes the Constitution can be amended to stop abortion is living a fool''s dream. When Huckabee says the solution to ending abortions in the US is a Constitutional amendment, he is playing us like fools. It can''t be done. Why do you think no one has ever tried?
Since it is not within the President''s power to amend the Constitution, anyone suggesting that as the solution is simply sidestepping any responsibility to do anything!
Only Thompson is serious about bringing abortion under control. He knows that the key is to appoint one more strict constructionist to the Supreme Court. The pro-abortionist know it, too. To confirm the right candidate will be the fight of the century. It will take every ounce of a President''s political capital to win the fight. A compromise will allow abortion to continue unchecked for another generation.
Huck has shown repeatedly that he will compromise or shift positions whenever advantageous. The only one that will NOT compromise his principles %u2013 or fail us - is Fred Thompson. If you really want the ongoing massacre of the unborn to stop - get serious. Look at the facts. Fred Thompson is our ONLY prayer.; Reply to this comment

Fact is, Mr. Huckabee has shown himself to be astute as to the ramifications of what FairTax means, not only to middle America ( http://snipr.com/nextrung ), but to the United States'' trade and manufacturing position, globally ( http://snipr.com/tradeinequity ).

Further, because the income tax system affords politicians political cover to HIDE TAXES IN PRICES - by increasing costs to business, passed through to consumers, taxpayers will never be aware of the actual tax load they''re carrying. Mike Huckabee beleives in some things, and he stands for some things! And those things are what we common Americans believe in!

Mike is an authentic conservative, but more importantly, an authentic human being!

Mike Huckabee spent 1 doallar to Mitt Romney''s 20 but still took more than 10,000 votes for a first place fisnish in Iowa!

Mike Huckabee has the largest support of military members!

Mike Huckabee wants to honor America and finish the job in the war on terror!

Mike Huckabee is a great guy, and the best choice for president I have ever seen!
