McCain Camp Says Romney Is "Nervous"

(CBS)
From CBS News' Dante Higgins

CONCORD, N.H. - The ad wars continue between John McCain and Mitt Romney.

Romney's latest shows New Hampshire voters criticizing McCain saying he is wrong on tax cuts, wrote an amnesty bill, has not listened to Americans and that he had his chance to make things better in Washington.

McCain's communications director Jill Hazelbaker responded today saying, "Yet another false, negative and angry attack from Mitt Romney. Clearly the Romney campaign is nervous, because they know that a leadership and stature gap exists between Mitt Romney and John McCain - and hiding behind surrogates to do their dirty work won't do anything to change that fact."

Riding what's been dubbed by some a "McSurge" in the polls, McCain is adding events to his schedule today while most candidates are slowing down for caucus night. He will return to New Hampshire from Iowa this afternoon to rallies, town halls and webcasting remarks to Iowa volunteers and supporters this evening.

Iowa and NH have a great responsibility in each presidential primary season. They need to sniff out the phonies and panderers, and send them on their merry way. In this election, the obvious inauthentic candidate is Mitt Romney, who has been exposed as a man who will say and do anything to get the nomination. I have complete confidence in the voters in these two states, in that they will show Romney the door in this race, and narrow the field to those who have both the leadership skills and integrity to be our next president. The rest of the nation is counting on you: stop Mitt Romney!

Dear New Hampshirians,
In a few days, you will have a chance to vote for a candidate who will most likely move on to become the next president. Your research and homework on the voting records of the candidates becomes more important than ever. Please consider Mitt Romney, who has the experience, intelligence and energy to lead this country into economic progress never known before in this country. He has the ability and history of fixing everything he touches. Our country has multiple problems, and his focus is already on fixing the issues that affect the middle/lower classes. He is not an elitist who disregards the plight of our nation. John McCain has served our country well in the military, but has absolutely no CEO experience in the private sector. We need to fix this country''s economic problems or lose our strength in the world, in the military and in our own homes. Please stand with Mitt and vote for the talent and strength that he has proven to have for years.

We love you New Hampshire!!

How about a MCSucks... John McCain would not win dog catcher right now in Maricopa County. I speak for the majority of Arizona''s when I say we are pissed off at John McCain and the job he has done.

He has had 25 years to make a difference and he hasn''t.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Andrew Thomas are doing the dirty work while John McCain is out there for his ego.

Screw John McCain
