McCain: Suprised by Focus on Candidates' Religion

(CBS)
WAUKEE, IOWA -- John McCain reacted to Mike Huckabee's comment to the New York Times where he wondered aloud if Mormons believe that Jesus and the devil are brothers.
"There is a lot of talk about this and I also think the Bible also says judge not lest you be judged," said McCain. "I believe people are going to select the president on the basis of character, integrity and vision."
"On the religious issue I continue to be a little surprised that there's not more focus on more of the issues like health care, education you know the bread and butter issues that people are more concerned about, " he said.
"All I can say, that if a month ago you would have said Governor Huckabee is in the lead in Iowa I would have said WOW, that's surprising," McCain added.
"And I think a month from now, 22 days from now you're going to see some more suprises because this whole cycle is accelerating rather dramatically."
