Spreading It Around

Barack Obama
Excerpts of a newly uncovered radio interview then-state senator Barack Obama did with a Chicago radio station in 2001 has made its way onto YouTube and also onto the Drudge Report. The portions of the interview put up seem to focus on the Supreme Court during the Civil Rights era.

"One of the I think the tragedies of the Civil Rights movement was because the Civil Rights movement became so court-focused I think that there was a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change and in some ways we still suffer from that," Obama says in part of the interview posted.

In a statement sent out by the campaign today, John McCain's senior policy adviser Doug Holtz-Eakin claims the interview is evidence that Obama would pursue "socialism" as president. "The American people continue to learn more about Barack Obama," Holtz-Eakin said. "Now we know that the slogans 'change you can believe in' and 'change we need' are code words for Barack Obama's ultimate goal: 'redistributive change.' … No wonder he wants to appoint judges that legislate from the bench – as insurance in case a unified Democratic government under his control fails to meet his basic goal: taking money away from people who work for it and giving it to people who Barack Obama believes deserve it. Europeans call it socialism, Americans call it welfare, and Barack Obama calls it change."

Let''s see if I have this right.
This whole ''Joe the Plumber'', thing.
He asked a hypothetical question...
I might buy this business. IF I do and it does 260 or 280 thousand a year will you raise my taxes?
From there McCain jumps the string-
Obama WILL RAISE his taxes!!!

First off, IF the business DID 280k , Thats not Joe''s Salary. But for sake of arguement, lets say it is.
Obama says if you make over 250k your taxes will be higher. So 250 is the ''cutoff'' number. Joe makes 30 thou over. THAT 30 is taxed at 3% MORE-thats the increase!
Joe has lost more than THAT running around with his head up McCain''s a$$, by calling off work...

I think McCain is 2 weeks too late on bringing the worms out of the woodwork. About all we can hope for at this point is either a miracle or at least only 57 Dem Senators and enough Blue Dog Dems to counter the Pelosi/Barney march to oblivion. Then, the strategy should focus on 2010. There is no way, no way Obama can deliver on all he has promised. It is impossible without raising ALL taxes, as Barney said this past Friday. But, Obama has promised and promised a lot. He simply can''t deliver a tax cut to 95% and a reformed healthcare under his plan. Sounds nice..ain''t going to happen. In the meantime, his true political leanings will continue to come forward and hopefully even the most left Senator will be cautious as to how they vote.
Come on, all you have to do is read OB''s book and turn to the page where he writes he is drawn to "Chicanos" and "Marxist leaning professors." Maybe I don''t know what a Marxist is, but apparently OB does. Nuff said. Then, in his own words, how he enjoyed attending socialist seminars while attending Occidental and Columbia. I don''t know exactly what is hidden, but it bothers me enough to try and fight this to the end. I say this with no bitterness or rancor towards you folks who back OB. I just don''t think we know who this man OB really is. Reminds me of the old story about the Texan who was all belt and hat but had no cattle.

are you guys kidding me... read the interview or listen to it! McCain is using sound bites of an entire interview to fuel a last ditch effort. I am tired of being lied to...

McCain and the Republicans playing to the base. Next thing is going to be a tape of Obama when he was three saying "moo" and they''ll say he was a communist at the age of three because he was really saying "Mao."

Everyone says things that may be taken out of context or misrepresented. Let''s get some old tapes of McCain backing Charles Keating. He already voted 90% with W. This campaign is reaching the low levels of politics that make the Jefferson-Adams election look like child''s play.
