Biden Responds To Criticism Of Comment On Taxes And Patriotism

Democratic Vice Presidential nominee Joe Biden told CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric today that he is "sick and tired" of the "phoniness" in criticism of his comment that it is patriotic for Americans with high incomes to pay higher taxes.

"There's been quite a brouhaha about your comment about paying higher taxes for those making $250,000 a year and over is the patriotic thing to do," Couric said to Biden while riding on his campaign bus.

As Couric noted, GOP vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin said in response to Biden's comment, "To the rest of America, that's not patriotism. Raising taxes is about killing jobs and hurting small businesses. And making things worse."

"How many small businessmen are making $1,400,000 a year average in the top 1 percent?" Biden responded. "Give me a break. I remind my friend John McCain what he said when Bush called for war and tax cuts he said, 'it is immoral, immoral to take a nation to war and not have anybody pay for it.'"

"I am so sick and tired of this phoniness," Biden continued. "The truth of the matter is that we are in trouble, and the people who do not need a new tax cut should be willing as patriotic Americans to understand the way to get this economy back up on their feet is to give middle class taxpayers a break. We take the tax cut they're getting and we give it to the middle class."

RIGHT ON JOE!!!

If republicans don''t want to pay taxes, they need to stay off our roads and highways, if their house catches fire they can put it out themselves and under no circumstances will they be allowed to dial 911.

People who are unwilling to pay their fair share are unpatriotic. No need to explain. Palin/McCain complain because they represent the anti-American neo-confererate base of the Bushevik Party.

Please stop with the distortions.Obama''s tax plan will provide more relief than McCain''s plan for the vast majority of Americans. It''s time the wealthiest gave back some of the money graciously willed them by Bush!

Palin failed her taxes.

She never reported the money she charged Alaskan taxpayers for staying in her own own.

That''s against the IRS laws.

Senator McCain, why is it ok for your VP to avoid paying her taxes?

URSODUMB,

Well....HHS under the bush administration has been trying to pass a bill which would set up the outlaw of the birth control bill. They state that sometimes the pill doesn''t work until after fertilization has taken place. Where does it end? Why is it okay to take old people off ventilators and let them die? Or kill innocent citizens in Iraq- yet not allow early term abortion and set up the outlaw of reliable methods(other than abstinence) of birth control. Are we to go into population overgrowth and then reward large families with 7,000 per dependent tax exemptions? Use your graphic images of scissors and blood...but this issue is far more complex than that.

Republicans refuse to pay their taxes because it%u2019s the Federal Treasury they continue to steal from and that would negate from their gain if they were to actually have to pay into the system.

PATRIOTISM: And what about the American owned companies that ship American''s jobs overseas? Under McCain''s plans they would still get their tax breaks. How patriotic are these Americans when they won''t even invest in our country! I agree, its time regular people get a break, and stop giving a break to the rich and the ones who don''t invest back into America.
