McCain Speech Excerpts

The McCain campaign has released the following excerpts ahead of Republican presidential nominee John McCain's speech tonight at the GOP convention:

"I'm very proud to have introduced our next Vice President to the country. But I can't wait until I introduce her to Washington. And let me offer an advance warning to the old, big spending, do nothing, me first, country second Washington crowd: change is coming."

"The constant partisan rancor that stops us from solving these problems isn't a cause, it's a symptom. It's what happens when people go to Washington to work for themselves and not you. Again and again, I've worked with members of both parties to fix problems that need to be fixed. That's how I will govern as President. I will reach out my hand to anyone to help me get this country moving again. I have that record and the scars to prove it. Senator Obama does not."

"I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else's. I loved it not just for the many comforts of life here. I loved it for its decency; for its faith in the wisdom, justice and goodness of its people. I loved it because it was not just a place, but an idea, a cause worth fighting for. I was never the same again. I wasn't my own man anymore. I was my country's."

The DNC was served at 12:00 p.m. and Senator Obama was served at 1:00 p.m. The U.S. Attorney%u2019s Office accepted service on behalf of the Federal Elections Committee (FEC) on or about August 22, 2008.

McCain has already chosen Rush Limbaugh''s pick for VP (if you don''t believe it, ask him sometime). He already has catered to the far right of his party by promising more tax cuts for the wealthy. McCain is a war hero, a former POW. But what about our CURRENT POW''s in the states--the Homeless Vets, who are still prisoners after being psychologically affected by combat, neglected by military bureacracy, and suffer joblessness at home? I saw a vet in the balcony with a protest sign that said ''McCain Votes Against Vets''. Time to find out if this is true, isn''t it?; Reply to this comment

The DNC cost an estimated $120,000,000. That money could help a bit more than pawning someones jewelry. Maybe they''ll show up next year in shorts and t-shirts (don''t hold your breath).

by klgroth4579 September 5, 2008 12:45 PM EDT: I am an undecided party who has been following both conventions. I believe both parties can bring the necessary change to our country. However, what troubles me is the money spent by each party. Especially bothersome is the amount spent on clothes by the candidates and their spouses. Is is true that Mrs. McCain''s outfit including her dress, shoes and jewelry cost around $300,000? Wouldn''t it have been more effective to address the working middle class families by being more conservative? During John McCain''s speech he included several families that were at the convention as examples of how the people in our country are struggling. Americans are losing their homes daily. Here is a thought: What if Mrs. McCain would have worn a suit/dress from a previous First Lady and made this known. Tell the American people that the money that traditionally would have been spent on clothes is being given to the families at the convention. That would have hit home!! What a great gesture that would have been! More importantly, it would have set a new precedence for the future. How can ANY candidate honestly look someone in the eye who is in jeopardy of losing their home and expect to gain their trust while wearing a $300,000 outfit? This is more than most people''s homes!!!
