Todd Palin, the husband of John McCain's running mate Sarah Palin, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol in 1986, CBS News confirms.

The Christian Broadcasting Network, which broke the story of Todd Palin's 1986 arrest, reports that Palin was behind the wheel of a truck in the small southwestern Alaska town of Dillingham when he was pulled over and arrested for the DUI.

Palin was 22 years old at the time of his arrest.

The news of Todd Palin's DUI arrest comes on the same day that Sarah Palin announced her 17-year-old daughter Bristol is pregnant.

I THINK, BUSH AS A REPUBLICAN HAVE FAILED THE AMERICANS FOR 8 GRACIOUS YEARS.
THE DEMOCRATS SHOULD BE ALLOWED FOR AT LEAST 4 YEARS OR MORE.
JOHN McCAIN AND SARAH PALIN SHOULD AS WELL VOTE FOR OBAMA-BIDEN TO SHOW THE LOVE THEY HAVE FOR AMERICA AND AMERICANS

If this is the best the Democrats can do at muckraking, they have lost the election.

You must be out of your mind. The DUI was over 20 years ago - 22 to be exact. Why does the media and politicians feel the need to dig so deep for dirt on a candidate or her/his family. I''m not even a Republican and I think it''s disgusting.

This is news because it shows that McCain makes rash JUDGEMENTS without first understanding all the consequences of his actions. It is not about the drinking, John does his share. It is about his choice for "Vice" President.

How is this news? Her daughter''s situation publically disclosed, and now this? One DUI when he was in his 20s. This is tabloid journalism at its worst.

It doesn''t matter whether it was the Christian News Network or The National Enquirer who broke the story, CBS shouldn''t have disseminated it. The candidates'' foibles are fair game, but to dredge up a 22 year old ticket on a candidate''s husband is beyond the pale. CBS and Conroy both abdicated on their responsibilities as supposed main stream media representatives.

Sarah Palin is a clear diversion and circus to distract from the real issues the Republicans are running away from.

I WISH THE MEDIA WOULD ASK BIDEN ABOUT HIS RACIST JOKES ABOUT EAST INDIANS WORKING IN 7-11''S OR HIS DESCRIPTION ABOUT OBAMA (A BLACK MAN) AS "CLEAN".

COULD YOU IMAGINE IF A REPUBLICAN VP CANDIDATE HAD SAID THE SAME THINGS...OYE VEY! YOU WOULD NEVER HEAR THE END IF IT.

IVE ALWAYS SAID THE MEDIA BIAS IN NOT SHOWN IS WHAT IS COVERED, ITS SHOWN IN WHAT IS NOT COVERED.

In addition to Earmarks as Governor including the bridge to nowhere already reported, Palin lobbied for earmarks as a mayor reportedly netting $1000 for every resident of her town in 2002 alone and almost $27 million in 4 years. No Reformers here.

McCain vetter claims Alaska Daily News was checked in the vetting process and all red flags have been divulged. Did the vetters miss the article about Palin''''s support of the earmark for the bridge to nowhere or did McCain''''s campaign deliberately choose to omit it to claim a reformer role for her at her VP announcement?

Asked whether everything that came up as a possible red flag during the review already has been made public, Culvahouse said: "I think so. Yah, I think so. Correct."

For Palin specifically, the team studied online archives of the state''''s largest newspapers, including the Anchorage Daily News, ...

As for the infamous "bridges to nowhere," MacDonald asked if the candidates would forge ahead with the proposed Knik Arm crossing between Anchorage and Point MacKenzie and Ketchikan''s Gravina Island bridge. Each has received more than $90 million in federal funding and drew nationwide attacks as being unnecessary and expensive. He also asked if they support building an access road from Juneau toward -- but not completely connecting to -- Skagway and Haines.

"I do support the infrastructure projects that are on tap here in the state of Alaska that our congressional delegations worked hard for," Palin said. She said the projects link communities and create jobs.
