Report: McCain Says He's Not Settled On VP Choice

John McCain told a Pittsburgh radio station that he has not decided on a running mate yet, the AP reports. McCain would not tell KDKA which way he was leaning but "talked very highly" about former Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge who he called a "great friend," according to the wire service.

Both the Politico and the New York Times reported last night that McCain had made up his mind on the selection, both citing sources either with the campaign or close to it. McCain is expected to unveil his announcement formally at a morning rally tomorrow in Dayton, Ohio.

Sounds like Rove has decided this is to be announced at 6 or 8 tonight. Then McCain will show some ad where he ''confronts'' Obama during Obama''s speech in a few key states. Nasty stuff.

So hard to make up his mind when all of the options are so bad.

He hasn''t settled the question because President Rove hasn''t told him who to select.

With Gustav likely to hit during the RNC, McCain has no choice but to pick Ridge or Jindal.

Romney''s wealth would cost votes.

Pawlenty is from the state of the bridge collapse. Not good for McCain''s gas tax holiday (that funds the highway repairs).

Lieberman would immediately convince millions of conservatives to stay home.

Crist doesn''t excite people. Also with Republicans under investigation in Florida, it''s bad news.

Cantor...maybe, but he doesn''t excite people.

Palin in under investigation.

Fiorina drove HP stock down. With Gustav coming, people would feel very uneasy with bringing in someone who could run a company.

Jindal brings sympathy for Katrina and now Gustav.
