Obama Takes On Outside Group Over Ayers Ad

(DENVER) Barack Obama's campaign has "quietly" begun airing a TV ad responding to an outside group that is spending $2.8 million on advertising designed to highlight the candidate's past association with former Weather Underground member William Ayres, the AP reports. The Obama ad is a response to commercials being run by the conservative American Issues Project highlighting Obama's ties to the controversial figure.

"With all our problems, why is John McCain talking about the 60s, trying to link Barack Obama to radical Bill Ayers," the Obama says. "McCain knows Obama denounced Ayers crimes, committed when Obama was just 8 years old."

The AP notes that while McCain's campaign is not running the ad, the outside group is financed by a McCain fundraiser and one of its board members has past ties to McCain's campaign. According to TNS Media, a company that tracks ad spending, the American Issues Project ad has run about 150 times in battleground states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and Michigan.

The McCain campaign responded to the new Obama ad, saying, "The fact that Barack Obama chose to launch his political career at the home of an unrepentant terrorist raises more questions about Senator Obama's judgment than any TV ad ever could. And the fact that he's launching his own Convention by defending his long association with a man who says he didn't bomb enough U.S. targets tells us more about Barack Obama than any of tonight's speeches will."

The AP also reports that the Obama campaign is seeking to bloc stations from running the ad, pressuring others not to and is asking the Justice Department to step in. In a letter to station managers running the ad, many of them part of Sinclair Communications, Obama campaign lawyer Robert Bauer wrote: "Your station is committed to operating in the public interest, an objective that cannot be satisfied by accepting for compensation material of such malicious falsity."

It''s not being stuck in the 60s to admonish Obama for carrying on with unrepentant Ayers, whom Obama counts as one of his good buddies. This ad speaks to the heart of Obama''s corrupt core in idolizing the likes of militant, separatist or extremist individuls like Ayers, Pfleger, Wright, Moss, Farrakhan, etc. Obama''s shorts getting all bunched up is another attempt at this artful tap dancer to cry foul to cover-up the truth. After all, Obama is a wimp when it comes to any criticism, rightful or otherwise, because he doesn''t think it''s nice.

WellHell3 - you must be stuck in the 1950''s (que Time Warp). How much more money do you want to waste on communism? The Chinese seem to be getting along pretty well under it. They only have 1/5th of the worlds population. While it''s not for everyone some must like it. What do you believe in? You seem to want to run peoples lives. Is it Republicanism?

If John''s Hanoi interrogators endorsed him, it must be payback for the information he gave them. There is information on websites that question what really happen while he was a pow.

Congratulations to Obama for not standing silently by and being "swiftboated" by shadowy right-wing funders of McCain. If there were any truth to the ad, why wouldn''''t McCain sign off on it? Oh... didn''''t think so. Also, when rightwingers get the FCC to gut the provisions of balanced news presentation (under Bush), and then buy out all the TV stations (Sinclair), the objective majority must fight their attempts to turn all media outlets into propaganda broadcasts. Good job, Obama! Expose these wingnuts for what they are. By the way, "WellHell" doesn''''t a religious conservative like yourself know another word besides Hell?

Anyone appreciate the spectacle of a multimillionare icon of the capitalist system spending nearly $3 million to associate a United States Senator with a self-confessed but failed "urban renewal" enthusiast with an authority figure problem? It''s almost as ironic as having one of John''s Hanoi interrogators endorse him for President!

When a small group of fascists like Rupert Murdoch control the media outlets in the US, we can expect Pravda-quality journalism from them.

Sounds like the Sinclair Group has joined that list.

I find this mind-boggling. This is precisely the kind of baseless *** that was used to defeat Kerry and get Bush re-elected in 2004. How many people are happy with that decision?! Because, the real question that this raises is: "Are enough voters going to allow themselves to be fooled by scumbag politics to allow a half wit to go to the White House, again?!"

There was a time when I thought McCain, if not particularly bright, was at least his own man with his own ideas, but he now endorses every one of the Bush decisions that got us into the current hole in the first place. The fact that McCain''s prescription for getting out of that hole is now "keep digging", just reinforces the inescapable impression that the GOP ran out of good ideas at least a decade ago and is too pig headed to admit its failure and come up with new ones.

McCain has drunk the same cool-aid as Bush Cheney. Do you really want to go there, again?!

Have you ever asked yourself, why the GOP goes straight to the gutter? Could it be the lack of substance of their own candidates?

The Obama camp is missing the point. Yes OBama was 8 when the bombings happened, but Ayers is UNREPENTANT (we didnt do enough he said) to this day and Obama STILL considers him one of his friends.

Another radical association for Barack.

too many question about his inexperience and his radical ties to muslims and terrorists especially now that we are at war with extremists.

American voters now better and Hill-arious voters are angry as all hell at obama and his subs.
