Obama Camp Suggests McCain Has Problem Winning Over Women

The Obama campaign just sent a memo to reporters posing this question: "Does McCain have a Woman Problem?"

In the memo, Senior Advisor for the Women's Vote Dana Singiser argues that "McCain's attempt to bridge the gender gap has fallen flat."

"He fares worse among women than any presidential candidate since Bob Dole in 1996," Singiser writes, citing polls showing Obama leading McCain among women.

Singiser claims that "McCain cannot close the gender gap" because (1) "[w]omen voters don't trust McCain because of his extreme positions on the key issues they care about" and (2) "[w]omen want change from the last 8 years of neglect for America's middle class families and women's economic security."

The memo spotlights issues important to women that the campaign suggests help Obama attract female voters by virtue of his positions. Among them are equal pay, health care costs, reproductive rights, and access to contraception and family planning services.

"61% of women strongly support putting more emphasis on reducing unintended pregnancies, including access to birth control and other family planning services," Singiser writes in the section on contraception and family planning.

She adds: "McCain has repeatedly voted against funding for family planning, accessibility of contraceptives for women, and ensuring that sex education is scientifically accurate. Obama believes that women should have access to affordable family planning and believes that our children should have access to comprehensive age-appropriate sex education."

UPDATE: A response from Tucker Bounds at the McCain campaign: "Barack Obama is spinning this issue to disguise his support for higher taxes, and refusing to acknowledge that the legislation he's promoting has more to do with paychecks for trial lawyers than the struggles of working women."

Bounds writes that the Equal Pay Legislation, which Obama supports, would benefit trial lawyers in part because it could lead to frivolous lawsuits.

It's also worth noting that Obama only had a two point lead among women in the latest CBS News poll.

I''m a Republican 53 year old white woman who is voting for Obama. Any woman who votes for the chauvanistic, probably misogynistic McCain has no self respect. Over the years McCain has made it abundantly clear that he has no respect for women, even the ones nearest and supposedly dearest to him. His adultery, crude jokes and insults, and his voting record against women''s issues should be sufficient for any woman with half a brain to vote against him.

Obama would have made a really good running mate for Hillary. The election would be sealed right now if that would have happened. But because the media didn''t stop swooning over him unitl after the primaries Hillary got the boot. Now he and McCain are in a lteral deed heat in the polls among total possible votes.

McCain biggest problem is with female democratic voters because he doesn''t hide who he is behind smooth talk like Obama. Obama could not give a simple answer if his life depeneded on it. He would spin his momma if he thought it would get him a few votes with anyone. Every thing he has done is for political expediency. He opposed Hillary on what she wanted to do until he won the nomination. Now he has adopted just about every thing that voters said they liked about her platform. But now they are his ideas, not hers.
The same goes for McCain. If McCain dropped out today. Drilling off shore would be Obama''s idea. Because it makes pratical sense that we stop our dependency on foreign oil sources whose oil supplies could be cut off at any time by say Russia. Thus affecting the price of crude. Voters understand the logic behind drilling our own oil. Therefore it gets votes. When are people going to see who Obama really is. He''s a follower of those who have good ideas not a leader.

Who has a problem winning over women. Obama is a arrogant, lying politician that is inexperienced and a major flip-flopper. If he wins we lose and if McCain wins we lose and suffer.
