New McCain Spot: Can A "Celebrity" Help Your Family?

The McCain campaign is out with a new television ad, "Family," asking if Obama – "the biggest celebrity in the world" – is "ready to help your family."

The spot opens with that question, chants of "Obama," and flashbulbs, much like the McCain camp's "Celeb" spot featuring newly-self-proclaimed presidential candidate Paris Hilton.

"The real Obama promises higher taxes, more government spending – so fewer jobs," an announcer says. "Renewable energy to transform our economy, create jobs and energy independence, that's John McCain."

The 30-second spot will air in "key states," according to the campaign, which does not clarify exactly which states it considers key.

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton emailed a response to the spot to reporters this morning: "Is the biggest proponent of George Bush's tired, failed policies ready to bring about change? Another day brings another dishonest attack from John McCain. While Senator McCain knows that Senator Obama has proposed cutting taxes for 95% of American families, what he's not telling us is that he wants to give $4 billion in tax breaks to the oil companies, continue giving tax breaks to corporations that ship our job overseas, and provide no direct tax relief for more than 100 million middle-class families. It's time to retire these old policies and bring new energy to America."

In other McCain advertising news, the presumptive GOP nominee's campaign has announced that it will spend $6 million on TV ads during the Beijing summer Olympics. A few weeks ago, Obama's campaign said it would buy $5 million in Olympic ads. So get ready for some presidential politics with your pole vault. The games start on Friday.

***Don''t you see, while I agree with some of your points, Obama is still the lesser of 2 evils! Amnesty Mccain only represents more of the same that Bush has done the last 8 years of letting big business and Oil companies get everything, while people at the bottom get nothing! Why can''t you put up a better candidate than Amnesty Mccain? So you want rich people and illegal mexicans to continue getting everything??? If only Mccain didn''t want to give tax cuts to the oil companies and amnesty to illegals.. I"ll still take Obama over Amnesty Mccain any day of the week!

Ragnar,

I''ll let Paul Krugman answer that meme: "In other news, Republicans credited their speeches for the fact that the sun rose today."

NCCAIN IS THE OLDEST CELEBRITY IN THE WORLD, IS HE READY TO LEAD? NO, OF COURSE NOT!

I am a republican and an ex-marine; I can plainly say, McCain is never and was never a hero, he is and was a pathetic failure who fabricated his so-called "POW" to exploit the situation and to catapult himself into politics but HE IS NOT READY TO LEAD!

LOOKING AT HIS AD AGAINST OBAMA, BRITNEy AND PARIS, I LAUGHED KNOWING FULLY WELL MCCAIN IS THE BIGGEST GRANDPA OF CELEBRITY!!

Give me a break, McCain! McCain is alraedy at the back pockets of oil giants that is why he is so keen on off-shore drilling. I will VOTE OBAMA, ME AND A CLUB OG 1000 MEMBERS!!! AM PATRIOTIC!!

Has anyone noticed?

Since McCain has come out for domestic drilling the price of gas has started sliding, which Obama said wouldn''t happen for 10 years after the resumption of actual drilling, much less just the threat of it.

It appears that Obama is no better judge of policy than he is about the people.

And by the way, Obama''s standing in the polls have been dropping as fast as the price of gas.

When a media darling like McCain gets called on by Paris Hilton to bring some substance to his campaign, the man is traversing some pretty shallow waters.

The results of the Conservative Corrupt Agenda are very apparent that the Republicans do not care about America and Americans. The only thing the Conservatives care about is taking the wealth away from the people and stuffing it into the pockets of selected private sector COMAPNIES.

The Privatization of the Iraq War was at the root of President Bush%u2019s impeachable offense against the American People when he lied all of us into an unnecessary war that has cost almost $1 Trillion Dollars.

The Republicans want the %u201CFree Market%u201D when they can manipulate it, and they want %u201CSocialism%u201D when they have to be bailed out. It%u2019s all make a buck on the other guy%u2019s hard luck.

The American People need to hold the Republican Party responsible, Vote Out Corruption in Government.
