Sexism Questions Linger For Democrats

"How much anger is there among women about how Hillary Clinton has been treated during this campaign?," E. J. Dionne Jr. asks in his Washington Post column today. "Some of the nation's leading female politicians will tell you: quite a lot."

Perhaps the most voluble of the lot is former vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro, who offers up an op-ed in the Boston Globe this morning that references "Democrats' sexism" right in the headline.

"... neither the Barack Obama campaign nor the media seem to understand what is at the heart of the anger on the part of women who feel that Hillary Clinton was treated unfairly because she is a woman," Ferraro writes, adding: "We feel that if society can allow sexism to impact a woman's candidacy to deny her the presidency, it sends a direct signal that sexism is OK in all of society."

Ferraro resigned from her fundraising position with the Clinton campaign in March after suggesting that Obama would not have gotten as far is he did in hte presidential race if not for his race.

"Since March, when I was accused of being racist for a statement I made about the influence of blacks on Obama's historic campaign, people have been stopping me to express a common sentiment: If you're white you can't open your mouth without being accused of being racist," Ferraro writes in the op-ed. "They see Obama's playing the race card throughout the campaign and no one calling him for it as frightening."

Dionne writes that the female politicians he spoke to "know that Clinton is on the verge of defeat because of her campaign's organizational mistakes, its failure to take Obama seriously early on and the difficulties created by her husband's presence." But, he suggests, many take what they see as Clinton's unfair treatment personally.

"It's a campaign, someone wins, someone doesn't win, that's life," Maryland's treasurer Nancy Kopp told him. "But women don't want to be totally dissed."

Did Obama EVER insinuate that Clinton was a Lesbian, while she insinuated on CBS (a mainstream media outlet) that Obama could possibly be Muslim. Did you see or hear outrage of that CBS insinuation from the Obama Campaign, but yet heard outrage from the Clinton campaign of sexism.... this prolonged election brought out some pretty ugly stuff.

Senator Obama has embarrassed himself, the Democratic Party process and Americans with his Church, his deceptions and unfair tactics to attempt to win this election.

The media has not made an issue about his involvement with criminal Rezko in Chicago or his face on the cover of a magazine with an anti-Semitic, racist Louis Farrakhan. His coworker, William Ayers, a domestic terrorist and his Muslim father have been swept under the carpet.

He has no international experience or military experience but insists he knows how to settle war issues.

Senator Obama has outspent Senator Clinton and still can''t attract the girls, the white men, Catholics, evangelicals, Latinos, Jewish voters, Cuban voters and working class Americans.

He can not close the deal on big states and with the Michigan and Florida decision he will now lose those voters.

No mention of 98 percent of the African Americans voting for African Americans as racist, but instead, the Clintons, who have an office in Harlem for their love for African Americans, have been accused of being racist.

Senator Clinton has been asked to leave the race since it started by the media,
"It''s over, get out, when will she leave the race? What will she do when she steps down?"

Democrats will lose in the general election because of this reporting.

I am embarrassed for the Democratic Party but more upset with the media swaying people to endorse a candidate that is unelectable.

Senator Obama is unelectable.

I have never seen such poor reporting during this primary season for the most important job position in the world.

In a time when we need to learn so much about each candidate and their policies, I still have doubts about Senator Obama.

The favorable reporting about Senator Obama and the vicious and unkind reporting about the whole Clinton family has been uncalled for and disheartening to millions.

Senator Obama has a past that''s frightening, a family that no one knows, and friends, pastors and coworkers that I would run from.

Maybe the pope needs a new cardinal in Chicago AND MOST DEFINITELY A REAL CATHOLIC PRIEST FOR PFLEGERS CHURCH...

I though this was the Roman Catholic Church not a circus !!

When BILL CLINTON was running for president, we (the minorities) voted for him because he was the most qualified candidate then. Now that BARACK OBAMA is the most qualified of the canditates, it only makes sense to go for him. The DEMOCRATIC PARTY is not the party of the CLINTONS. It existed long before the advent of the CLINTONS in the political arena. For those of you who are not happy, please, feel free to defect and create a third party. You could call it the party of INDEPENDENT DEMOCRATS of the CLINTON''S PARTY.
Now it''s time to look forward to NOVEMBER

Are any Obama followers voting for him because he is Black?

I think we covered that.

Your refusal to answer my question PROVES that you know MOST OF HILLARY''S SUPPORT IS RACIST *AND* SEXIST.

Either she is lying again or showing us just why she is losing the election.

Posted by rufisgufis at 08:13 PM : Jun 01, 2008

Nope. It shows she''s definitely not in the contest for her own gain, as some have maintained. She is not concerned with how much money she may lose due to staying in the race. She has more important things on her mind, like how she can best help the country out of the mess it''s in.

Thanks for agreeing with me that most of Hillary''s support is based on sexism and racism.

Ya like to twist the facts, don''t ya, txgrouch. Anyone with a half a brain can see that you are telling a big LIE about what I said.

I see you''re not worth trying to communicate with. See ya!

She complained about sexism during the debates:

"Why do I always get the first question?%u201D

At a speech she gave a Wellesley College she boasted of %u201Cbeing used to taking on the boys.%u201C

Posted by rufisgufis at 08:01 PM : Jun 01, 2008

Rufis, you clearly have no idea what sexism is. Neither of those examples constitutes a complaint about sexism! How can you possibly think that a comment on getting the first question alot has something to do with sexism ? It doesn''t. Neither does a comment about "taking on the boys". If anything, that is a boast, not a complaint.

Your post at 8:04 is a clearcut and obnoxious example of sexism. I think you know that perfectly well. You mistakenly think sexism is cool or funny. Need I translate your statement into racism for you to understand how wrong it is ?
