Leahy: Clinton Should Drop Out

Sen. Patrick Leahy wants Hillary Rodham Clinton to abandon her White House run, the Associated Press is reporting.

Leahy, a Democrat from Vermont who has endorsed Barack Obama, issued a statement today suggested that Clinton cannot win the delegates necessary to take the nomination.

"Senator Clinton has every right, but not a very good reason, to remain a candidate for as long as she wants to," he said in the statement. "As far as the delegate count and the interests of a Democratic victory in November go, there is not a very good reason for drawing this out. But as I have said before, that is a decision that only she can make."

In an interview with Vermont Public Radio that aired yesterday, the AP notes, Leahy said Clinton should withdraw and back Obama.

You remind me of the Dem party in 2000 when Bush won FL and you all were talking about hanging chads. When the real reason you lost is because Gore couldn''t even beat idiot Bush in one debate. OBAMA TIES TO HAMAS

The Jewish Telegraphic Agency today reports that the Wright, Jr., long-time pastor of Obama, published an op-ed piece signed by a Hamas leader. The item appeared in the July 22, 2007 edition of his Trinity United Church newspaper on the "Pastor''''s Page." Justifies attacks on Israeli civilians, and carries a supporting introduction by Mr. Wright.

Obama issued a statement strongly condemning these views of his pastor. "I certainly wasnt in church when that outrageously wrong [Hamas] piece was re-printed in the bulletin.

Obama is a long-time member of Trinity United, and his financial contributions to his church are reported to be substantial ("All told, the [Obama] couple gave $27,500 to [Trinity United] in 2005 and 2006," according to the New York Times of March 26). His moral support to the church has been unwavering. As more and more and more details of the extremist political positions of the church are revealed, Obamas response has been to distance himself from these, but also to repeat, over and over, that he didn''''t know, that he wasn''''t there.

I find it very difficult to believe that an intelligent, energetic, and very political man like Obama is perpetually ignorant about what goes on in the church to which he devotes so many of his resources. If he does get to the White House....; Reply to this comment

Obama has accepted money from Exxon, Shell, BP, Chevron and just about every other major oil company. Just last month, Sen. YOU ARE KNOWN BY THE COMPANY YOU KEEP! Mr. Obama has not been too wise in his choice of companions and associates to date. What sort of cabinet would he choose? We have a "Star" on center stage, getting extremely arrogant and full of himself. We are being given a ''preformance'' now and shown a glowing picture. What of the man behind the facade?. What are his REAL intentions? What happens when the grease paint and the smiling mask comes off? The public is only adding to and, playing into Obama''s play acting. Better beware of how you vote. First, she did not cry and it truly was from an exhausted woman (she was hoarse and putting her all into her campaign) who was asked the question "how do you do it". The sexism displayed in this race for the nomination (from the party to some of the voters) is distrubing, dibilitating for women, and harmful for the Democratic party.; Reply to this comment

From the minute she started saying she would "buy" each of us with our own tax dollars, then later changing it to money for our babies to go to college. I saw her as tacky, scheming and sleazy, not to mention the ugly stench of appearing to try to buy votes. It was the beginning of a negative impression. But still, I was prepared to support her. Then came Iowa and the fake questioners they tried to plant. could the Clinton campaign get any tackier?

so then came NH with the potentially contrived crying all while send out roboemails and calls lying on Obama''s pro-choice record. Definite negative, then SC. At that moment, my support for Clinton vanished. I listened to her and Bill and the context and I decided to find out about Obama. Neither candidate is perfect or Saintly. But it appears he was TRYING to run a more decent campaign. so was McCAin. It looked like Clinton had not only studied but taken to heart every GOP and Karl Rovian tactic she could--and added a few of her own. I could go on and on...but here''s the point: No one should tell her to quit. This is her right. It MAY hurt the party or even seriously damage it. But she still has the right to run and to play ugly. This has been almost a lifelong dream for her. No one has the right to tell her to give up on her dream--but we do have an obligation to really watch her and make our choice based on how she pursues this dream.; Reply to this comment

After PA. weighs in next month that woman''s pipe dream about a girl becoming president will be crushed.
