McCain's Daughter, A Michigan Ad Fight, And Rudy In Spanish

In South Carolina eight years ago, a whispering campaign suggesting that John McCain had fathered an illegitimate black baby may have been a factor in sinking his presidential campaign. A mailer sent out during that period used McCain's actual daughter, who McCain adopted from Bangladesh in 1993, to support the fraudulent claim.

Now a new mailer featuring McCain's daughter, Bridget, is being sent to South Carolina voters. But this time it comes from the McCain campaign itself, and stresses McCain's pro-life position. It also functions as a preemptive strike against a renewed whispering campaign against the candidate.

"Rights of the Unborn for 24 years," the mailer says at the top. Then this text appears next to a photo of Cindy McCain holding Bridget: "Cindy McCain cradles little Bridget, a baby she and John adopted in 1993 from Mother Teresa's orphanage in Bangladesh. Bridget has been a great blessing to the McCain family. Today, Cindy and John work together to promote adoption and help women facing crisis pregnancies."

The mailer also includes the phrase "Pro-Life" in big letters, with a shot at rival Mitt Romney: "Not just recently. Always. Never wavering." (CBS News political consultant Marc Ambinder has snapshots.)

McCain also has a new ad out in Michigan, "Michigan Endorsed," touting his newspaper endorsements in the state. McCain has proved to be a favorite of newspaper editorial boards, and the spot features McCain's endorsements from The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press. One of McCain's main rivals in Michigan is Romney, who is a native of the state, and, as the Associated Press notes, the ad could help counteract the advantages Romney gains from his Michigan ties.

Mike Huckabee, McCain's other serious rival in the state, also has a new ad out in Michigan, "Understanding." In it, he speaks directly to the camera. "When you grow up and life's a struggle, you have a whole different understanding of what people are going through," he says. Huckabee then talks about fuel costs, job loss, and the credit crisis and touts his tax cut and job growth record. "I believe most Americans to remind them of the guy they work with, not the guy who laid them off," he concludes.

Romney's Michigan spot, "Pride of America," stresses his ties to the state. "I grew up in Michigan when Michigan was the pride of America," he says at the start. "It breaks my heart to see us in a one-state recession." He talks about the need to "turn us around" and states that "Michigan is personal to me."

Polls in Michigan, where voters go to the polls on Jan. 15th, suggest that the three candidates are in a close race. The state is particularly important to Romney, whose strategy was built on garnering momentum from early wins but has yet to win a state.

Rudy Giuliani, meanwhile, is focusing on his key state, Florida, where he this week began running Spanish-language television ads on multiple stations stressing his record of crime fighting and tax cuts in New York. According to CandidatoUSA, Romney and Ron Paul may soon follow suit.

If you want to know McCain, the real guy, check him out on Wikipedia. He graduated BOTTOM of his class, had extramarital affairs on his ex-wife...including one with his current trophy wife and was involved in the Keating Five. He keeps saying what a clean campaign he''s running, but all he uses is scare tactics and besides isn''t he about a hundred years old? and p.s. I DO want the guy "who fired me" in the White House, not some bah-foon who wants to be part of the Hollywood crowd jamming on his guitar.

(The rest of the story)

Reading the whole article, there appear to be a lot of small nuances to this, including some differences between a Daschle staffer and Daschle himself. It seems to me that there are two possibilities, both of which are extremely interesting. First is that McCain really did negotiate to leave the GOP but either thought better of it, or couldn''t reach a deal. If true, it''s going to deep-six his campaign forever and for good. GOP voters will not elect someone who negotiated to give control of the senate to the Democrats for personal gain (like committee assignments).

The second possibility is that Tom Daschle and friends are putting more into their talks than was ever actually there, knowing it would kill McCain''s chances at the presidency. In that case, is the strategy to take out one of the GOP''s strong candidates in order to clear the way for Rudy or Romney? Do the Democrats see those guys as more vulnerable in the general? If so, it''s an obviously flawed analysis. It''s more likely that McCain really did more than think about leaving the GOP.

Did McCain Nearly Leave the GOP?

That''s what former Majority Leader Tom Daschle and ex-rep Tom Downey say. And if it''s true, McCain''s campaign for the GOP nomination is over. I can''t emphasize that enough. Jim Jeffords is still persona-non-grata in GOP circles and labels like "Benedict Arnold" are routinely thrown in his direction.

According to Downey and Daschle, a McCain staffer, Tom Weaver, came to them and asked why they hadn''t approached McCain about switching parties shortly after the 2000 election, and things developed quickly from there:

Daschle said that throughout April and May of 2001, he and McCain "had meetings and conversations on the floor and in his office, I think in mine as well, about how we would do it, what the conditions would be. We talked about committees and his seniority ... [A lot of issues] were on the table."

Naturally, McCain denies it.

funny how McCain both cried like little girls about so call Romney attack ads, and first thng they do in Mi is take shots at Romney with their rhetoric about, "not just recently pro-life, and "not the guy who fired you" shot at Romney hoping to fuel resenment against those happen to have more money. Huckabee is snake oil salesman, and McCain is a two-faced Washinton insider who would sell his soul for the nomination.

This is typical banter waged by the right wing, %u201Cthe left will raise your taxes folks! But, the Conservatives will lower your taxes my friends!!%u201D

And, if you notice that the Republicans may offer a lowering of some tax for some people, or a flat payoff like George W. Bush%u2019s $300.00 in the 2000 election. You find that the tangible result is that we all wind up paying more for everything such as the Bush/Cheney Energy Plan cost each and every American an increase for EVERYTHING! The Republicans hide the fact that they impose an %u201Cinvisible tax%u201D by increasing the costs of all goods and services with the simultaneous decrease in jobs and pay raise.

Go figure.

Vote for HUCKABEE and get richer!

Based on your annual salary on the left, you get to take home this much more (per week) if you vote for HUCKABEE!

Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is the ( ONLY ) candidate to commit to implementing the "Fair Tax" system for Americans.

Income tax is eliminated and Sales tax increase from 7% to 26%.

$1,000 LCD Flat screen TV:
Now cost $1,070 with 7% tax
New cost $1,260 with 26% tax

$260 - $70 = $190 more for tax. But just think how fast you can save up $190 now! You can save up that amount in 3 to 5 days, that''''s all with HUCKABEE''''S new Fair Tax system.

To save up to buy that new TV will be very quick now.

Now you put away say $20 a week. That would take you 50 weeks or just about 1 year to save up for that. ($1,000 / $20 = 50 weeks)

But with HUCKABEE''''s plan you can save up say $375 week and pay it off in just 2 to 3 weeks! That''''s all! ($1,000 / $375 = 2 to 3 weeks)

If you want to become richer than you MUST vote for HUCKABEE. He is the ( ONLY ) presidential candidate committing to do this for all Americans.

VOTE for Mike Huckabee! Go to his web site and check him out at Mike Huckabee dot com.

You can walk home a richer happier man or woman each week if you vote for HUCKABEE!!!
