What Will Tom Do?

Republican presidential candidate Tom Tancredo will make "a major announcement regarding the campaign" tomorrow afternoon in Iowa, a tantalizing tease that has sparked speculation about whether his candidacy may be coming to an end.

Tancredo has remained in single-digits in Iowa polls despite spending most of his time there over the last year. He has been focused almost exclusively on his opposition to illegal immigration, the top issue for likely GOP caucus-goers. In a recent Republican debate, Tancredo signaled that he was happy with the positions being espoused by his primary opponents on the issue. "For a guy who usually stands on the bookend here, aside, and just listens all the time, that's kind of frustrating, you know, in other debates. I have to tell you, so far, it's been wonderful," he said. "Because all I've heard is people trying to out-Tancredo Tancredo."

CBS News Chief Political Consultant Marc Ambinder reports that the "scuttle" is Tancredo will exit but no word yet on who he may endorse, if anyone. One source with ties to the campaign told CBSNews.com Tancredo is playing it close to the vest, but speculated that Fred Thompson would be a logical choice for Tancredo to back.

The Tancredo campaign did not respond to calls and e-mails inquiring about the announcement.

Finally Tom the hate monger is gone. His address was a good way of accepting the defeat. He is one of the people if made the President of this country will ruin America. Non-White world could have stopped doing business with America if Tancredo would be the President.

America''s number one issue is illegal immigration, judging by the severe situation of Los Angeles (tomorrow''s America). RP is pretty good on illegal immigration, but Tancredo was THE BEST, the incontournable, the most HONEST (he no-showed on the univision debate!), i hope it is NOT true that he leaves us, these are difficult American times where a great patriot is needed!...

Tancredo will be missed, if only because his angry anti-immigrant diatribes made the other GOP candidates look relatively sane by comparison.

Wahington Post reported in an article December 11, that Tom Tancredo, said his endorsement of Huckabee stemmed from the former governor''s recent statements on the issue, particularly a plan that Huckabee put out last week that would require illegal immigrants country in the country to go to their country of origin before trying to return.

Tom Tancredo''s followers will now move over to Mike Huckabee''s campaign in the final rush for Iowa, NH.

If indeed Tancredo withdraws from the race, it will be a sad day for America''s sovereignty. American workers and citizens are only now beginning to see what Tom Tancredo has seen for years! It''s time for Americans to take back our country and expel the corporate profiteers and every politician who supports them! This family thanks Tom Tancredo for his efforts to fight for American rights, freedoms and privileges!
