Spirit starts flights between Dallas and Mexico
DALLAS — Spirit Airlines Inc. is expanding again at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, where the dominant carrier, American Airlines, is in bankruptcy protection.
Spirit launched its first international flight from Dallas on Thursday with daily nonstop service to Toluca airport outside Mexico City.
The Miramar, Fla.-based airline also began daily nonstops between Dallas and Detroit, San Diego and Portland, Ore. The airline offered a two-day fare sale on some tickets to promote the flights.
Spirit arrived at DFW Airport in May 2011 and has expanded to 15 destinations. The low-fare airline has said its expansion at DFW is unrelated to American's problems. American and parent AMR Corp. filed for bankruptcy protection in November.
Spirit shares fell 18 cents to $20.30 in midday trading.

Please do yourself a favor and book with another airline. Spirit is cheaper, but with add-on fees for everything you are paying almost the same fee. They provide no service whatsoever. My flight was cancelled last Saturday and they notify me about that at 2AM in the morning, 6 hours prior to the flight. The best they could offer is 30 something hours delay, or my money back in 7 business days. And a worthless 50 dollar future travel voucher with so many restrictions that I cannot use it. There is no customer service. I ended up paying extra 300 dollars to fly another airline the same day. They will not reimburse you for anything if your flight if cancelled. Just check for the amount of passenger complaints they generate. It is 3 times higher than the next airline and their president made a public comment that he does not care. Don't believe me, go ahead and book your spirit flight.
