After The Show... On The Go!

I always get a kick out of folks asking me what I do after 9 a.m. Sometimes people assume that our day is done when we get off the air and that we have the rest of the afternoon to hang out. In reality, it's super busy and sometimes you feel like you're going at breakneck speed.

For example, after Tuesday's show, I hosted a Kelly Clarkson concert out on the plaza. Kelly told me about how difficult it was getting the album that she wanted into stores and her battles with the record company. Let me tell you, all the struggle was worth it. (I've been rocking out to the terrific album in my office the last couple mornings!) You can catch her concert Monday, July 9, on The Early Show.

After saying goodbye to Kelly, I raced home to tape a segment with our show's resident veterinary expert, Dr. Debbye Turner, about dogs and DNA testing. We had a shoot with a very wiggly Bichon named Buttons! Look for that piece in three weeks once the DNA testing comes back.

Today, I am on my way to Washington D.C. for the White House Tee Ball Initiative, which President George W. Bush has been hosting for the last seven years. I'll be harkening back to my sports broadcasting background and doing play-by-play during the game, as well as a short interview with the President.

It's an all-girls match this year, promoting women's athletics. In that spirit, I'm taking my three daughters, who have been begging me to see the White House. Sharing this experience with them should be really cool. One of their favorite bands, the Jonas Brothers, are performing after at a picnic this afternoon. So, of course, the girls can't wait for that.

On Friday, I'll be jetting off on the campaign trail to Des Moines, Iowa, to sit down on Saturday morning with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his lovely wife, Ann. Look for the Romney piece next week.

And they say summertime is the time to relax?
