Brazil files injunction against Twitter
SAO PAULO — An attempt to block Twitter users from alerting drivers to police roadblocks, radar traps and drunk-driving checkpoints could make the Brazil the first country to take Twitter up on its plans to censor content at governments' requests.
About two weeks ago, Twitter unveiled plans to allow country-specific censorship of tweets that might break local laws.
An official at the federal prosecutor's office in Goias state Thursday said that as far as he knows no other country has yet tried to get Twitter to block tweets. He declined to be identified because he was not authorized to speak to the press.
A spokesman for the federal prosecutor's office said the injunction request was filed Feb. 6.
