Fire in train coach kills at least 5 in India
HYDERABAD, India — A government official says at least five people have died after a coach of a running train caught fire in southern India.
District Collector B. Sridhar says the train was stopped early Monday after the fire was noticed by an official as it crossed a railroad station.
Sreedharan told The Associated Press that the fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit in the coach. It has been extinguished and nearly a dozen injured people have been hospitalized.
The fire was reported at Nellore, a town nearly 500 kilometers (310 miles) south of Hyderabad, the capital of Andhra Pradesh state.
