Apple says that YouTube will work on its mobile browser Safari and that Google is working on a stand-alone app that will be available in the App Store, The Verge reports. Currently, YouTube video links viewed in Safari automatically launch the YouTube app.
Apple released this statement on the matter: "Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended, customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store."
Google released a statement to the blog Engadget, saying: "We are working with Apple to ensure we have the best possible YouTube experience for iOS users."
Industry pundits suggest that the move is further evidence of the growing tension between Apple and Google. Apple recently dropped Google Maps from iOS devices and launched its own competing map application.
Google Maps and YouTube were included on Apple's iPhone from its initial launch. The competition between the two companies heated up when Google launched its own mobile operating system, Android, to compete with Apple's iOS. The original iPhone was launched in June 2007, while the first Android smartphone, the T-mobile G1, was released in October 2008.

Still, competition is good and all that... these companies will probably litigate each other to death while exploiting people in countries that conveniently lack things like the 13th Amendment...
