Facebook 'friend' offer exposes man's other wife

(AP) TACOMA, Wash. - A Washington state corrections officer has been charged with bigamy after Facebook discovered two women were connected to him and suggested they might want to "friend."

Prosecutors in Pierce County say Alan L. O'Neill married a woman in 2001, moved out in 2009, changed his name and remarried without divorcing wife No. 1.

Wife No. 1 found out about Wife No. 2 when Facebook detected their connection to O'Neill and suggested the friendship connection.

The News Tribune reports O'Neill was placed on administrative leave after prosecutors charged him Thursday.

Ya gotta love social networking. I wonder how many spouses will be taking a good, hard look at their mate's friendship list... and their own. :-)

I wonder if it's a Facebook "violation of terms of agreement" to have two wives.

In Hilldale or Colorado city, this would not be a story. Except the part where someone got to use the internet. Let's not forget the places where religious prisons exist in america.

What right has Facebook to take his private information and publish it to others as it did? I would guess that a lot of incidents like that happen - probably not with spouses, but with boyfriends and girlfriends. Facebook may be doing the American public a great disservice by trying to link people up like that, causing heartache and recriminations.

Why are you blaming Facebook? People engaging in stupid conduct should have the sense to stay away from social websites. This Einstein put himself at jeopardy.

Regardless of whether or not he is a scumbag, it's pretty fracked up that Facebook tells you what people are on your friend's friend list to suggest friending even if that person has a private friend list.
