No iPhones for Christmas brings out worst in kids

Twitter
(CBS) - Shh. Do you hear that? It's the sound of kids cursing at their parents for not buying them an iPhone, iPad or car for Christmas.

Comedian Jon Hendren retweeted a series of bratty complaints after not receiving their desired presents. The results are a disappointing look into the state of this holiday season.

There were several "F-Us" to moms and dads for not springing for the luxury items. At a time when we're dealing with a struggling economy, the reactions are a little unbelievable.

"Didn't get an iPad for the second year in a row. I'm never celebrating Christmas again," tweeted @supermattu. Aww. Poor baby.

"I'm f***ing pissed where is the god damn ipad I asked for!!!.[sic]" exclaimed @tef_LON_don. Perhaps it's with that missing question mark, grammar king.

"If I don't get an #iphone for christmas I'm gonna make my dads life a living helllllllllll," tweeted @ashiff. Mission accomplished?

Well, I certainly love iPhones and iPads, but Apple didn't carry me around for 9 months. Shaking my head at this first world problem.

There is a silver lining to this story, however, musician Jonathan Mann created a hilarious song called "WTF?! I Wanted an iPhone!!!" with Hendren's retweets. Instant classic.

Kids these days need to do odd jobs to make money so they'll appreciated the work that goes into making those dollars. As a kid I cut grass and shuffled snow to make money to buy things for myself. And when I got old enough, I worked at McDonald's. When I had to bust my butt for a month to save enough money to buy something, I took really good care of it and appreciated it. I got put in my place the one time I got mad because I didn't get a certain Christmas gift. That never happened again because I knew I had to earn my own money if I really wanted something. Most kids get an allowance for doing chores around the house, but back in my day you did chores because you were expected too, not so you could get paid for doing them. I made money for doing those same chores for my neighbors.

The problem is not the kids, it's the parents' malfeasance and dereliction of their parenting responsibilities.

Truly pathetic!!

I am a legally blind older lady and years ago when Gram was alive she would send us grandkids 2 dollars for Chrisrtmas. I visited her and she explain it. I never asked why but Gram felt the need to tell me.She was on a fixed income. I was grateful for her thoughtfulness.
If the kids need a PC for school workthen why not a used one. They do not need a car. I realise things are different today.
I have an old Notebook that does what I need it to do. We had to take care of the things we have. We can't aford to replace them.I think the walking will do ye good. If ye get a cell phone-it should be a basic one.If ye got a Christmas gift-be thankful.

As a recently retired Middle School teacher, I am used to this. The kids of this "era" are the most selfish, bratty, and self-absorbed generation since I started teaching 25 years ago.

However, I don't put all the blame on the kids. Why would a parent, whose child has had multiple run-ins with teachers and/or suspensions, be allowed to have an iPhone? Their parents should give them what I have: a prepaid cheapo phone in case of an emergency. I can understand why parents want their children to have a cell phone; I cannot, however, understand why they pay premium dollars on the best phone and support their kids' overuse of that phone.

Enough is enough. If the economy doesn't get better quickly, these families will not be able to afford any phone...and the kids will just have to get used to it.

Spoiled or greedy and selfish ungrateful lazy brats. Bet they do nothing to help around the house and their school work suffers.

Sound like a bunch of un-grateful kids to me..I am grateful for the simple meal we had on Christmas Day. What about a used PC for yer needs. Take the bus..Money don't grow on trees. Kids ye should be grateful for what yer parents are able to give ye. I would happyly use an older PC which I use. What I would like would be a display reader for my home and notebook PCs. Kids today they feel they want the latest hot stuff. Who is going to pay the bills on the items ye each want--Mum and Dad.
