Women gamers have more sex than non-gamer females, study finds

(CBS/CNET) - What you're about to read might surprise you. According to a study performed by Harris Interactive at the behest of game website Gamehouse, more than half of online gamers are female.

But that's not the real shocker in the results of the analysis of more than 2,000 adults: women gamers have more sex than women non-gamers. Yes, by a margin of 5 percent (57 versus 52.)

Are you still with me? Is that post-defibrillator feeling strangely reassuring?

Then let me tell you that 74 percent of online gamers and 71 percent of their gaming-abstinent counterparts watch TV at least once a day.

Women gamers have more sex, study finds Gamehouse

This led Gamehouse's chief gamer, Matt Hulett, to offer one of the great sentences of this year, or any other: "Maybe if we all watched a little less TV and played more games online, we'd all be having a little more sex."

I am sure Dr. Ruth could not have put it better herself.

The survey also found that more than half of lady gamers are in a serious relationship.

And apparently 70 percent of these relationship-laden women are actually happy in these relationships.

This article is misleading because it doesn't show that male statistics are probably near identical. The only news here is that more females (and older people) are playing games than most of us in the younger crowd think.

Funny study...I play COD online multiplayer with my husband and friends.

I am a 46 year old female who grew up with video games (Atari, then PS1, PS2 and now PS3).

If you choose to wear a mic it can be a rough environment, but yes I do think most women play games other than COD lol...

The age factor might account for the statistics. I didn't do a study, but I suspect the older you get the less you have sex and play video games.

When they had video poker machines here they were always 'manned' by women for hours. It doesn't surprise me that they find on-line gaming exciting. But 5% more sex really isn't that big of a deal. My wife's women co-workers seem to like the farm growing game a lot.

Really? This actually surprises anyone? As much as game companies like to push the "hip" 18-25 male demographic, the fact is women have always played. Who doesn't know that women also have the largest amount of free time TO game. I still remember my marathon 18 hour Diablo (I & II) sessions, back in the 90's; so not even a "New" phenomenon. These days we're still gaming, maybe not for 18 hours, but Xbox and Steam means I can have my games anywhere. Crimsom Alliance is keeping me amused until D3comes out next year. Skyrim hardly counts as gaming, though I have wasted more of my life in Morrowind and Oblivion than I'd care to admit. I'd have wasted more if they were multiplayer. You don't have to play FPS games to make the 'gamer' cut.
And speaking of stereotypes, this is the first computer I've gamed on that I didn't build myself, specifically FOR gaming on. ASUS RoG beat me to my next project; a gaming laptop! I am in heaven and hubby doesn't have to do all the cooking for a week while I build...and dessert is on me. Stuff your stereotypes- Arwen StarBow Lives!

sorry but solitaire does NOT count as gaming. when most women claim to be "gamers" they are referring to farmville, bejewled, peggle, and other games. while yes, these are games, these people are in no way "gamers". the terminology here is a misnomer. i think many women actually want to be gamers because they believe it makes them seem more interesting to men. yet when men attempt to speak with them about games they actually play (think: cod, battlefield, gears, etc), the women have no idea what they are talking about, which just makes them seem fake.

there are more and more women playing actual games, and i am happy to see that. it's nice to be in a lobby and not be the only female. i do hope more women do actually start gaming.

I think is the other way around. Active and happy women like to do many of these activities more often (sex, video games, sports, socialize, etc.) As for why in the south, I don't know. Maybe they have more time on their hands.

Women gamers love to wrap their hands around a joystick.

I read it..I don't watch much TV but I love to play some games that are one person. I love to play solitaire and have since I was a pre teen with a deck of cards. Now have can play it with a deck of cards or play it on the computer. The hardest game for me to play is FATE.
Why do we play games..I play aganst the computer to hopely beat the bloody machine or for the enjoyment. I play as a legally blind person..Sure it is hard..I think it helps with memeory. I have offline games on my PC that I enjoy playing. I am 57.

Well, if you put yourself put yourself in the midst of socially inept male game geeks who barely now what women are but are dying to find out, your odds would naturally go up.

IF the ladies put themselves in the midst of socially inept male game geeks who barely know what women are but are dying to find out, their odds would naturally go up.

Socially inept male game geeks who barely know what women are, or a 56 year old father of three, and grandfather of 3 such as myself.

I think the kids online refer to your stereotype as "fail". :)
