Nielsen: Android Surging n Smartphone Popularity
The latest interim report on the escalating battle between smartphone makers confirms recent anecdotal and statistical evidence about the surging popularity of the Android operating system. More smartphone customers in the U.S. chose Android models in the last six months than any other operating system, according to a survey by Nielsen.
Android led the pack with 32 percent of new purchases, ahead of both Apple's iPhone and Research In Motion's Blackberry platform, which were in a a statistical dead heat at 25 percent. While this is a moving snapshot, RIM is still No. 1 with 31 percent when it came to overall market share, followed by the iPhone at 28 percent and Android at 19 percent
