'Modern Family' wins third Emmy for best comedy
LOS ANGELES — "Modern Family" wins its third straight Emmy Award as best comedy.
ABC's sitcom about three households related to each other has grown into the most popular comedy on television. It matches the three Emmys won by its competitor, NBC's "30 Rock," which is nearing the end of its run.
"Modern Family" also beat two freshmen series from HBO, "Girls" and "Veep." Other nominees were CBS' "The Big Bang Theory" and HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm, which has been nominated seven times in this category without a win.
The 64th Primetime Emmys are airing live Sunday from the Nokia Theatre L.A., with Jimmy Kimmel as host.
