Man denied entry to US from Mexico to bury son, 10

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — A Mexican national says he has been barred from entering the United States to bury his 10-year-old son, a U.S. citizen who died Tuesday in a house fire in northeastern Pennsylvania that killed three other people.

Attorneys for Fidelmar Merlos-Lopez are trying to win humanitarian parole, but say their efforts have been rebuffed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The funeral for Damien Lopez is Monday. The boy died in a Shenandoah row house along with his cousin, aunt and 7-month-old half-brother.

Fidelmar Lopez has been waiting at the U.S.-Mexico border at Laredo, Texas, since the fire. Lopez was an illegal immigrant who left the U.S. voluntarily in 2008. He's in the process of getting his green card so he can rejoin his wife in Shenandoah.

A lot of the immigration law on the books already has provisions about this, but there is also immigration law that contradict with itself, too. Someone in our immigration department is being a bit too stiff and heartless.

The last thing I want to see is the USA become like Communist Germany with a wall right down Berlin.

Romney is a proponent of such a wall.

This is criminal! Let the man bury his son and leave again!

I was married in England and my husband went back to bury his father. Now they won't let him back in the country until all the paperwork is processed. They are saying it will take 5 months.

Something must be done about keeping family from their loved ones due to these kind of circumstances.

My heart goes out to Mr. Lopez and his family.
