Prosecutor: Man killed Md. trooper to get revenge
UPPER MARLBORO, Md. — A prosecutor says a man shot an off-duty Maryland State Police trooper to get revenge because the officer threw him out of a restaurant. The trooper had been working as a security guard at the restaurant.
A trial opened Monday for Cyril Cornelius Williams, who is charged with first-degree murder in the June 2010 slaying of Trooper Wesley Brown.
Prosecutor Tara Harrison told jurors during opening statements Monday that Williams became upset after Brown and another officer kicked him out of an Applebee's in Forestville. She said he drove to a friend's home, picked up a gun, headed back to the restaurant and shot Brown.
Defense lawyer William Brennan said there was no DNA, forensic evidence or confession linking his client to the crime.
