Police: U.Va. slaying suspect had bruises, scrapes
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A police officer has testified in the murder trial of a University of Virginia lacrosse player that the suspect had scrapes and bruises on his arms and legs.
Charlottesville patrol officer Jeremy Carper testified Monday in the first-degree murder trial of George Huguely V of Chevy Chase, Md. Huguely is accused in the May 2010 slaying of another U.Va. lacrosse player, 22-year-old Yeardley Love of suburban Baltimore.
The trial is in its second week. During prosecution questioning, Carper identified the bruises and scrapes on Huguely's arms and legs from photographs taken after Huguely's arrest. The questioning is apparently intended to support the prosecution's claim that Huguely had a violent, final encounter with his on-again, off-again girlfriend.
The defense has cast Love's death as an accident.
