RI player wins $336 million Powerball jackpot

AP

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Lottery officials say someone who played the Powerball in Rhode Island has won the $336.4 million jackpot.

The new multimillionaire has not stepped forward and the lottery has not said where the winning ticket was sold. To win, the player had to match all of Saturday's five numbers, 1-10-37-52-57, and Powerball number 11.

Because of rising sales, the jackpot more than doubled from $173.5 million on Feb. 1.

Powerball is played in 42 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Correction:

Powerball and Mega Millions need to have three drawings whenever a jackpot reaches $300 million that way the jackpot would be split by three winners and more people would play trying to be one of the three.

What about the people who lost $336 million? How many spent more than they could afford? How many spent their rent thinking it could be them and now will be evicted. How about the fact that we prey on those less fortunate for a idea of a fantasy that is not attainable. This large windfall does not solve problems but creates more. We all think it is the answer but it will create more pain and suffering in the long term and affect lives of many due to the evil and negative energy associated with greed and money. Nobody needs this amount of money to live comfortably this is a ploy by the Gaming Industry to create bigger and bigger jackpots and glorify it to the max and generate revenue. This is money transfer from millions of poor to one individual. I hope the winner gives 95% of it back to the people.

Well now, one less person has to worry about working or finding a job. That person should be forced to quite his or her job, if employed, to make room for the one who needs it.
