Katie Couric's Notebook: Lieberman

Katie Couric's Notebook
There's a new movie coming out next week called "It's Complicated," about a divorced couple with that age old relationship issue can't live with you, can't live without you.

I think that's how Democrats are feeling about their ex, Senator Joe Lieberman.

They need him to reach the magic number of 60 votes on health care reform...but he's made it clear...he'll only vote for the bill on his terms. He opposes lowering the Medicare eligibility age to 55....and he's against the public option...despite polls that show at least 56 percent of his own constituents support it.

Critics say the ex-Democrat is really in bed with insurance companies. He took more than one million dollars in contributions from them since 1998, according to the New York Times.

They say when a marriage fails, it's the children who suffer.

In fact, there are more than 8 million uninsured children in America. Hopefully whatever compromise these Senators reach...they'll keep them in mind.

That's a page from my notebook.

I'm Katie Couric, CBS News.

While you may think this issue revolves around leiberman, we already knew what he was and nothing has changed there.
The real problem is with Fake Democrats now showing their true colors. The votes should be there for real reform regardless of what Leiberman thinks but what we have is a revised bill that is a complete sellout of the American People. This is first due to the traitors who talk Democrat but vote Republican and then it is the remaining Democrats that are selling out to pass any bill with the name of health care reform attached to it. If the Democrats can not pass a credible law with the public option intact, one to actually benefit the people it you please, then they should sidetrack the entire matter until they can do the job right.
In reality what is currently being discussed is not reform at all. It is a simple sellout. Get it right or lose the majority in 2010.

Hooray for the Lieb...at least he has the gahoona's to stand up for what is right....Wait till America learns over the next few days of the threats the Washington D.C. Democratic political leadership has given out to some of the Dems including the threat to close Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska as punishment for pro-life senators ...and apparently with the blessings of the WH...what do you say about those kind of politics, Katie...if you agree with it, you are more disgusting than you appear to be on the surface.

Keep blaming GOP all you want. Dems have a clear majority. This failure is all theirs. What the dems need is a President who can lead. Instead they bought into a law professor and a lot of very well-spoken hopey changey promises.

It seem that he was for this before he was against it. Healthcare for profit off of others suffering is immoral. Putting CEO salairies and bonuses, lobbyists, camapaign contributions, legal obfuscations, advertising, and duplicate office processing before health care.
It is a funny thing but when big corporations merge they say they are saving money, streamlining, cutting overhead but in cases like this they say it is hurting competition and also an unfair advantage. Which is it? large coporations do not foster competition either, they foster monopolistic control of the marketplace.
