Some of the nation's biggest banks are back in the black, and as President Obama stated today they have you to thank.

It was, after all, billions of dollars in taxpayer money that kept them afloat.

Today, as the financial community marks the one-year anniversary of the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the President delivered a stern message about learning from mistakes.

While it's good for the economy to have those banks making money again - it can't happen in the same risky ways that got them into trouble in the first place. Consumers, Mr. Obama said, need protection and he's advocating a new agency to regulate financial products so you don't get burned next time.

Experts say it'll face a tough road in Congress, but didn't lax regulations get us into this mess in the first place?

For now, those financial institutions can express their gratitude to the American people by not letting history repeat itself.

I used to think like many of the others stated that you were just one of us everyday people. I now know that you are not and that you are part of the problem. Why is it so hard to do your job? Are you a journalist? Is there a story behind why CBS, ABC and NBC do not do as some others fair and balanced stories? We know about NBC they are in bed with the administration but what is your excuse? If you are going to go after the Republicans then how come you can't go after the Democrats? I want all politicians on both side of the fence to be held accountable to the people of the United States.; Reply to this comment


by youcancallmeroy September 18, 2009 12:13 PM EDT: I voted for President Obama because our country needed change. I agree with him on most of the health care issues (but not all). Now we have this Van Jones and Acorn mess. I always thought CBS was a "centrist" media, or at least tried to be, but the major networks and CNN have disgraced the responsibilties of journalism by not covering these stories. This is a coruption issue and why has the President not responded to this? Your reporting is a joke. No one is above the law.; Reply to this comment

What an incredible opportunity for Katy: Use your CBS resources to do a scathingly unbiased expose' on ACORN.

If Katy could show some independent thinking and tackle this mob-like organization for a 60 Minutes segment, she might regain some credibility as an independent thinker.; Reply to this comment

We too used to enjoy Katy in the morning; but these days are sad at her evolution into (basically) a shill for the DNC, and the metro-centric leftist-elitist north east media cabal (did we get it all?).

It's a sad day when Bill O'Reilly and Lou Dobbs are the only two prime time talking heads you can trust for healthy uni-lateral political skepticism.

Ever since people realized that news was a product to sell not something to tell, journalism has become a disgrace.
Fox News runs a major disinformation campaign on health care and CNN and CBS conveniently overlook a major scandal.
The only solution I have come up with is to listen to and read everything from all the major "news" outlets and try to get as many of the small ones as possible. One almost has to become an investigator to sort through all the crap that is spewed out by those that are regarded as "fair and balanced."

I think it was great that President Obama showed up on Wall Street in Federal Hall, and he should visit as often as he can to keep everybody on Wall Street on their toes from now on. And to the banks that were bailed out with my taxpaying monies..... you're welcome.

Did you know that this is the most productive farmland in the world? Did you know that a court ruling protecting a fish no ones heard of has put about 35,000 out of work? It broke 5 days ago. Everybody I know knows about it, but the mainstreams haven't touched it. Limbaugh refers to the networks as "state-controlled media" which I chuckled at at first, but nothing else explains your silence. If carpenters in Santa Barbara know about it, then so do the all the news media. How could they all respond with the same bizarre silence? Because they truly are the state-controlled media. They were told to bury it and they buried it. This will be known as the day in history when the TV and print media were officially delegitimized.; Reply to this comment
