Katie Couric's Notebook: Laws Of Science

Katie Couric's Notebook
The saints might go marching into New Orleans, but the scientists are marching right on out. A group of more than two thousand biologists have decided NOT to hold their 2011 annual meeting in the Big Easy.

The reason? Louisiana has a law that allows teachers to use supplemental materials in science class - things other than the state approved curriculum. Republican-up-and-comer Bobby Jindal signed it last summer after it passed the state legislature with overwhelming support.

The scientific community says the law is nothing more than a free pass for the teaching of creationism, and that religion has no place in a biology class.

The Times Picayune reports that Governor Jindal has not responded to the letter from the scientists.

Either way, they've already moved on - to Utah - where they say the laws protect science.

Salt Lake City is more progressive than New Orleans? Now there's a clear argument - that evolution exists.

Katie, Is there some reason why CBS continues to call the President of the United States Mr. Obame rather than President Obama? Jeff Glor on CBS Evening News on 28 Feb. 09 during his opening remarks was the latest example I can site.

Did your dad tell you, that all scientists are evolutionist? I got your sarcasms funny, because you don%u2019t have brains. CA, NY, MI and other liberals states are the biggest losers - begging with their bowls for stimulus money.

Let me apologize in advance for having the audacity to post a comment that was removed from the previous notebook topic.
And for having the ego to think that "I" may have been the "real" reason CBS COMMENT POSTING was declared temporarily shut down for routine maintenance.
Clearly, my removed comment, and the subsequent shut down of ALL COMMENTING by CBSNews, was just a coincidence in timing.

But I will not apologize for my evaluation of Ms. Couric.
-- I just now saw her on a recent cable documentary where she was caught offguard, up close, in bright sunlight.
She is gorgeous. And handled herself like the professional she is. ...professional NEWSWOMAN, that is.
(Just so there is no misinterpretation.)

I WILL tie my past (previous topic) comment to the present
(current topic: Evolution) in the following way:
For those of us over age 50. Kids, college kids anyway, did not "sextext" pictures of themselves over cell phones.
No. No. Back in the 1970's college students were "streaking" -- sprinting buck naked across the campuses.

So as far as evolution is concerned. We have come a long
way.

Hey Katie,
Here's some science for you . . . why doesn't CBS News or you report on the "moderate" Muslim media executive's alleged beheading of his wife. The story is unfolding in Buffalo, NY.

Might want to stop trying your hand at being politically correct and start reporting the news. Remember that . . . news? You're being overpaid to report "news".

Might actually help your ratings if you did your job.

Oh, love the program!

You're a great Anchorwoman, Katie!
And Salt Lake City was a great place to hold the 2002 Winter Olympics, and you did a great job hosting those Olympics on TV, too!

Your a lesson in evolution Katie, except your journalism abilities are going backwards. Don't have far to go though.

Katie,

When will you take your rightful place on the evolutionary ladder, and naturally manifest into your unemployed form?

Religion is already in the Science classes for it is unavoidable when you enter the topic of origins; something has to be assumed. The religion that is the only religion allowed to be openly orthodox in American schools, to include the University is called "Secular Humanism" and blindly asserts materialism as its philosophy and Atheism as its a priori view on God. Scientist does not = evolutionist as shown by the number of scholars who signed a statement rejecting evolutionism see: www.discovery.org. Evolution, a term that is the constant victim of equivocation,in the sence of infantile--reptile--gentile or macro-evolution has ZERO real evidence! Adaptation or microevolution shows changes within a species, but notice that after all of the breeding dogs still remain dogs! This actually shows good design! My all-season radials adapt to the changing environment, a design that I am greatful for. Katie, you are merely showing that this Secular orthodoxy is your religios worldview. Progressive = Secular Fundamentalist. Richard Dawkins, Daniel Dennett, and Eugenie Scott are all signers of the Humanist Manifestoes yet are never asked how their religious views impact their "scientific" assumptions. How come?
