Katie Couric's Notebook: Twilight
There's a new movie hoping to take a big bite out of the box office this weekend - Twilight.
It's based on a young adult novel by Stephanie Meyer, all about a dangerous romance with a studly young vampire. Clearly young adult novels have come a long way since "My Darling, My Hamburger."
But vampires have come a long way, too. From Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise steaming up the screen in Interview with a Vampire to the new HBO series
"True Blood," Dracula has never looked better, or further from Bram Stoker's vision.
In the 1897 novel, Dracula had white hair, piercing eyes, and foul, fetid breath. In Twilight, the teenage vampire is definitely Mentos fresh - even if he isn't exactly full of life. Eat your heart out Bela Lagosi!
Admittedly, it seems odd that these new teenage heartthrobs are literally creeps and ghouls. But I guess if the fangs fit, wear them.
