This morning, Katie sat down with Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin in New York. In the exclusive interview, Katie asked her a wide range of questions on foreign policy and the current economic situation. You can read the full transcript right here, or check out some highlights below.

Sarah Palin: The interesting thing in the last couple of days that I have seen is that Americans are waiting to see what John McCain will do on this proposal. They're not waiting to see what Barack Obama is going to do. Is he going to do this and see what way the political wind's blowing. They're waiting to see if John McCain will be able to see these amendments implemented in Paulson's proposal.

Katie Couric: If this doesn't pass, do you think there's a risk of another Great Depression?

Palin: Unfortunately, that is the road that America may find itself on. Not necessarily this, as it's been proposed, has to pass or we're gonna find ourselves in another Great Depression. But there has to be action taken, bipartisan effort – Congress not pointing fingers at this point at … one another, but finding the solution to this, taking action and being serious about the reforms on Wall Street that are needed.

i am sooooo disappointed KATIE...you looked like brunilda the WITCH...you of all people should think about being kind to the person you are interviewing...Tim Russert you are not.(you never knew if he liked the person or notor whether he was a republican or a democrat--he was always just plain kind..it is such a disservice to the american people when the elite media are so biased...and they set about showing it...shame on you...and how many vp''s knew what their running mate voted on for the past 26 yrs...and what does that have to do with her views...that was what you were supposed to be interviewing her for wasn''t it...SOOOO SAD

I was so delighted watching you interview Sarah Palin. Your basic questions showed she does not have a clue about what this country needs or the troubles we face. The thought of a lipstick pitbull as VP or heaven forbid President scares me. Thank you Katie, you are my new hero.

Palin being groomed as the ''future of the GOP'' would be great! She''s sane and honest. She gets ''pro-life'' cred for her own actions, so she won''t have to support restrictive laws -- in Alaska she ''governs from the center'' according to an excellent recent article.

Between McCain now and Palin later, we might be back to the GOP of Eisenhower and Goldwater!

Some sanity is needed, with the Dems having gone over to Obamamania.

Maw1955: I sense you think the GOP would like to start grooming Palin to be the next Reagan. Personally I don''t believe it''ll work. Like Palin Reagan was a lightweight in the "general intelligence" department, however, he had enormous strengths in speaking skills, political insights, sharp wit, and a true understanding of economics. His self-written "A Time for Choosing" speech in 1964 was quite simplistic, but an inspiring masterpiece for the GOP. Plus his many politically active years in anti-communist/socialist involvement far exceeded the time it will take Palin to maintain her good-looks.

The Republican Party mostly had to just point Reagan in the right direction, and he took it from there. With Palin, well, it will take much, much more than just pointing.

I watched the Katie Couric interview... Way to go Sarah! She put Couric, the blinking nervous wreck, in her place. Sarah Palin is a brilliant woman. I''m actually surprised she had an interview with an obviously biased liberal. Sarah gave great answers on Russia, Pakistan and their wonderful President, and Israel. She will be an excellent Vice President!
For all of you "liberals" out there, even though you try and dominate the blogs, you''re in the minority.
Know this! Obama''s lost his mojo, watch him tonight and look at his eyes... Obama''s "change" is the meager change that would be left in our pockets if he were to become President...

I started watching her interview with Couric but quickly turned it off. I get very uncomfortable watching people make fools of themselves, that%u2019s why I walk out on awful Karaoke.

Now, I did like her smiling, politically cynical speech at the RNC. Ya know, with a well written and rehearsed script and an adoring audience, she does very well. But I think most people know the difference between deftly reciting script and intelligently communicating ideas.

And now, after witnessing that latest interview, I%u2019m almost hoping her VP debate WILL be canceled. I%u2019m all for bringing out the truth, but perhaps some things are best left covered, especially since we (most of us) fully know the truth. Do we really NEED to do that to her? I think (trust) most people know what%u2019s going on and those few delusional indiviuals who think she would make a great leader and possible president are a small minority.

But, maybe not... Perhaps she will even do at least half as well as many of those confused, right-wing folks believe..

I think that the CNN email response (that I saw earlier today) from viewer "Larry" to the question "Is Sarah Palin Qualified" put it perfectly:
"No, but I feel sorry and embarrassed for Sarah. McCain has sucked her into an "opportunity" akin to a subprime mortgage situation on a house that she cannot afford."

I''m tired of the Right and Fox News (O''Reilly) whining about the unfair "Gotcha" questions from those interviewing her. She''s running for #2 to run this country. She needs to KNOW this stuff. AND if she is going to make comments like "the Maverick has been pushing for reform for years" she *** well better be back it up with examples.

Katie should be commended for keeping her composure and not busting a gut laughing at her during the interview.

I agree that after hearing her speak to the american public, that she is definitely unprepared, uninformed and an embarrassment to our political system, she stated that she holds a degree in "Journalism", well let her return to the great state of Alaska in the city of 7000 or so and start her very own newspaper, that way she can write whatever she wants,(after all she only views issues in black and white) there''s no color coming from her eyes.)I can see through her actions and read deep into her words, she''s trouble for our great country.

C''mon people, if this woman can''t stand the pressure of an interview with Katie, then why does she believe she can be VP? I find it mighty ironic for people to say that Katie was unfair..seriously folks ... Obama has had to deal with invasive probing of every aspect of his life, and yet the media is unfair for asking Palin ''POLITICAL'' questions....be real!!! If you can''t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen...she shouldn''t be running if she is going to be offended at the questions asked...I see why they don''t want her to speak...she''s is apparently not the brightest crayon in the box...Let''s be honest, if any of us were sitting there with the experience that Katie has, questioning who might be the next VP of America, we would have looked at her just as baffled.
