In the decade since I lost my husband Jay to cancer, I've been looking for ways to raise awareness, and research dollars to fight this disease. So I'm proud to be part of an unprecedented effort that we're calling Stand Up To Cancer.

This morning, I joined with Charlie Gibson and Brian Williams to announce an extraordinary undertaking: an hour-long live program on September 5 that will air on all three major broadcast networks. So listen to my Notebook for more of our plans ... and stay tuned as September approaches!

Great effort on cancer, I have already lost too many relatives and friends to this set of diseases.

More importantly, thank you for the incredible truth you spoke on the Today Show about Scott McClellan''s charge that the media didn''t do its job in the run up before the Iraq war. Most of the media is making excuses, you are the only one so far who has said "we were remiss". My years at U of Oregon J-school taught me that much (where was Ann Curry on this??) and I felt failed by the national media--you have started a redemption process.

I will have to start watching CBS Evening News because of your single comment.

Thank you.

I think it''s great what all three networks are doing, However it doesn''t surprise me that you are doing this. You will be the brightest star shinning on 05Sept and we will all be watching and donating!

With that said...I think more needs to be brought to light on SKIN CANCER I have been through two major surgerys and more more to go because of skin cancer....I almost lost my foot not to mention my life and I realy don''t think people are aware of this from SKIN cancer.

Good luck on 05 Sept 2008!!!!
Let''s all stand together and fight cancer!!!!!

Katie,
I am the mother of a 2 1/2 year old son who has Stage IV Neuroblastoma, a rare and deadly form of childhood cancer. He is currently recieving his forth round of chemotherapy and we are looking at a stem cell transplant late this summer. There is little known about the disease because it only affects about 700 kids a year. By the time it is caught has usually spread and the statistics of survival are so low. If you could include childhood cancer in your work it would be so appreciated so much by so many. Thank you for listening.

A hopeful mom.

I would like to thank all three networks for setting aside their rivalries for this important cause. This is one of those situations where a united front is needed to get the attention of the public and of our government. Thank you all!
In the matter of asking the right questions, some of the questions were asked and some were held back but even those asked were not always answered truthfully. I suggest reporting attempts to suppress information or derail investigations. That is news also and would give the public notice that they are not getting the information they need to assess a situation.

Katie, I am the grandmother of a 4 year old boy who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma Cancer at the age of three. It is not a well known or publicized form of cancer, yet 650 children usually under the age of 3 are diagnosed each year. Since you are doing such a wonderful job to publicize the fight against cancer it would be very heartwarming if you also took on the cause of pediatric cancer. Children should not have to live their lives with chemo, radiation, surgeries and other forms of treatment. All children should be free to play, learn and grow up to be contributing adults. Most of cancer funding goes to adults and very little is channelled to children with cancer. If you could include pediatric cancer in the wonderful work that you are doing it would be appreciated. Thank you for listening to a grandma who prays every night that her little grandson will get better.

I wrote to you some time ago telling you that one of your reports about the ongoing war in Iraq was more then disappointing. Today I am happily writing to congratulate you on your courage in speaking the truth about the media''s complicity in the propaganda machine of the Bush administration. The use of propaganda by the pentagon and the president is illegal. Keep it up Katie, there are millions of us that believe in truth over pandering. Real journalism takes guts and you showed some yesterday!Thank you.
Blessings.

I think what the networks are doing is great. However, I would like to see some emphasis put on pediatric cancer as well. It is the #1 killer of our children in the U.S.! My son has battled a cancer called neuroblastoma, and the treatment protocol isn''t much different than it was 10 years ago! Research needs to be done so that our children do not have to suffer like they do, and also so families do not have to go through the agony of losing a child to the beast.

Thank you!

On May 22 the US Senate passed S. Res 563, the ''National Childhood Cancer Awareness Day Resolution.''

Childhood cancer is the number 1 disease killer and the 2nd overall leading cause of death of children in the United States. More than 10,000 children under the age of 15 in the United States are diagnosed with cancer annually.

Is anyone assigned to cover the (very broad) topic of pediatric Cancers? If not, PLEASE DO.

For my 3-year old daughter''s sake, who is battling Neuroblastoma, for the sakes of so many families devastated by these diseases that have struck down their children in their prime, PLEASE DO.

Thank you.

Can anyone tell me where I can find some organization or person who will pay for my son''s colonscopy. He is 37 years old, has ulcerative colitis (about 10 years now). He also has congestive heart failure. In recent years he has been unable to work so has no insurance or money. i am unable to help him finacially. I had colon cancer in 2001, so he needs care. He is having excessive painful symptons. Going on for several weeks now. Can anyone help. I have tried local sources, but just get the run around. He needs care now. thx.
